Chapter 11 - The Family [7] - Hunger

By pure chance, he had stumbled across what seemed to be the town square Patches had mentioned. An elegant, adorned fountain stood tall right in the center, with small sections of separated grass jutting out from its sides.

The space it occupied, however, was relatively small in the grand scheme of things. It appeared more of a local park than a town square, though the amount of people which were present immediately countered this claim.

Nephyr found his eyes gazing for the building Patches was referring to β€” after a while of having no luck, the ever-present thought that he might have gotten the wrong location lingered in his mind.

Only in the corner of his eyes did he finally manage to see it.

The building was far from what he'd expected. Just at first glance, it seemed scarily narrow β€” brick-and-mortar exterior blending into the walls of the much more designed buildings flanking it.

Only a single wooden door made it apparent that this was even a structure in the first place.

Then again, an oddly familiar smell wafted from within and out the crevices of the planks.

He knew what it was without even needing a second thought; 'It's pizza!'

The delicate scent sent him into a daze of hunger-fueled hypnotization.

He felt a bit of drool begin to seep out as he imagined the fuming, melted bits of cheese paired with the savory sauce that coated it underneath. The bits of sausage and slices of thin meat sprinkled throughout its surface, breaking its smooth texture with that of pure perfection.

He could already taste it melting in his mouth, slightly burning the top, yet he would pay no heed.

Upon noticing his own trance, he quickly shook off the thought and pushed open the door.

He gave the solid door a sizable shove, revealing a thin room stretching far to the back.

A large, lengthy counter separated the ovens and various other instruments of cooking the perfect delicacy just to their immediate left.

He could also notice that pizza wasn't all that they sold; Bundles of sauce-covered chicken, bowls of various piping hot soups, and tons of refreshments and appetizers sure to pull you back in to spend more.

And yet, all his eyes could focus on was the figure sitting at the tail end of the room. A figure which gave him an odd sense of comfort.

It was Patches.
