"Jack" Ruby whispered, laughing as she leaned against him. "You've got chocolate on your cheek. Did you even notice?"
Jack chuckled, grabbing a napkin. "Can't help it. You brought over too much dessert. What am I supposed to do, ignore it?"
Ruby smirked and nudged him playfully. "You're hopeless, Hayes."
The two were sitting on the couch in Jack's hotel room, plates of half-eaten cake and empty soda cans scattered on the table in front of them. Ruby leaned closer, resting her head on his shoulder.
"You know," Ruby murmured, "it's been a while since I've felt this… relaxed. No drama, no expectations. Just… this."
Jack glanced at her, a small smile playing on his lips. "Yeah, it's nice. I could get used to this."
Ruby tilted her head up to meet his eyes. "Could you?"
Before Jack could respond, a loud knock echoed through the room.
"Who could that be?" Ruby asked, sitting up.
Jack frowned. "No idea. I wasn't expecting anyone."
