"Ruby, are you really going to act like this never happened?" Damien's voice was low, but the anger simmered beneath every word. He sat across from her in the dimly lit café, his hands gripping the edges of the table.
Ruby stirred her coffee, avoiding his piercing gaze. "What do you want me to say, Damien? That I regret everything? That I still feel the same way I did when we got married?"
"You could start by explaining how we got here," Damien said bitterly. "You and me… we were supposed to be unstoppable. And now? You're running around with someone like Jack Hayes?"
Ruby finally looked up, her eyes weary. "Damien, do you even remember how it felt back then? You were so consumed by your career, by your obsession with becoming the best. I felt invisible, like I didn't even exist."
"And that's your excuse for cheating on me?" Damien shot back.
