"Jack, you think you're ready?" Ruby asked as she picked up a piece of popcorn and tossed it into her mouth.
Jack leaned back on the couch, propping his feet up on the coffee table. The TV was flickering with some random action movie Ruby had insisted on watching, but his mind wasn't on the film. His eyes traced the movement of Ruby's fingers as she scrolled through her phone, occasionally glancing up at him. He had to admit, it felt good to be relaxed for once.
"I'm always ready," Jack replied, a confident smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "But yeah, I've got this. I'll beat Alonzo, no problem."
Ruby rolled her eyes playfully and tossed a cushion at him. "Don't get too cocky. Alonzo's a tough one. I've seen him fight. You've got your work cut out for you, mister."
