Leaning against a rusted dumpster, her silhouette seemed to melt into the shadows, her eyes catching the light like a predator stalking prey. She wore a leather jacket over a fitted black tank top, her arms crossed as she studied him.
"Jack," she said softly, almost too casually. "You've been busy."
Jack's hands clenched at his sides. "What do you want, Lena?"
She pushed off the dumpster, her movements smooth and deliberate, like a fighter stepping into the cage. "To talk. Just talk."
Jack's eyes narrowed. "Talk? Like old friends? Or is this another one of the Syndicate's games?"
Lena smiled faintly, though it didn't reach her eyes. "I'm not here to play games, Jack. I'm here to save your life."
Jack crossed his arms, keeping his distance. "Save my life? That's rich, coming from someone who works for the people trying to kill me."
