On the morning of November 16, 1900, the bustling streets of Tokyo, Japan, were filled with people rushing out of their homes, preparing for another day's work. The sun shone brightly overhead, casting its golden light across the city. Life carried on peacefully—until the Beasts arrived.
Without warning, a wormhole tore open in the sky. Witnesses described it as a window into another world, a mystical realm beyond anything they had ever imagined. Some spoke of landscapes too fantastical to belong to Earth, others claimed to have glimpsed impossible creatures and floating cities. But most terrifying of all were the Beasts that emerged from this strange tear in reality.
These creatures defied explanation. Massive, otherworldly, and utterly ferocious, the Beasts descended upon Tokyo with raw power, bringing chaos to the once peaceful world. Panic spread quickly, as people struggled to comprehend what had just appeared before their eyes—an invasion from a dimension that defied every known law of nature.
Soon after the Beasts emerged, they launched an all-out assault on Japan, igniting a devastating war that quickly spread across the globe. Nations like the United States, African countries, Australia, England, Germany, and others were drawn into the conflict, each fighting fiercely to defend their people from these otherworldly invaders. The battles raged with unprecedented intensity, as humanity united in the face of an enemy unlike anything the world had ever seen.
After several years of brutal conflict, marked by countless deaths and immense casualties, humanity finally triumphed over the powerful Beasts that had once threatened to wipe out civilization. Against all odds, the common man prevailed, securing victory in a war that had spanned the globe.
In the aftermath, the remnants of civilization discovered a way to tame these once-dreaded creatures. By blending their DNA with that of already domesticated animals, scientists succeeded in turning the Beasts into loyal companions and tools of war. The first successfully domesticated creature was the "Wild Flame Orc," a terrifying Beast now harnessed for human use. Over time, these creatures, once symbols of destruction, became valuable assets. Nations began utilizing them not only to gain advantages in future conflicts but also to assist in peacekeeping and aid efforts. With the Beasts now tamed, the world found a new balance, one shaped by cooperation between humans and their once-feared enemies.
Now, with 89% of the Beasts tamed, domesticated, and friendly, these creatures aid humanity in countless ways, from agriculture to defense, and even in daily life.
"Aaaaand done…" a voice mumbled. It was Hajime. He sighed in relief, having finally finished his essay on the history of Beasts and their impact on human civilization. His medium-length, messy white hair fell over his face as he stretched. Slowly, he stood up and walked over to hand in his paper to Mr. Surahara , his teacher. Many students jokingly called him "Mr. Receding," a nickname earned due to the man's severely receding hairline and thinning crown.
"Here you go, Mr Recedi- I mean- Mr. Surahara!" He said, chuckling off his little slip up. Knowing if Surahara heard him, he'd probably be suspended.
"Mr. Hajime Aki …. I won't make you redo your assignment. But, for the love of the White Eyed Dragon, work on your handwriting." He said, His eyes narrowing slightly as he looked at Hajime's paper. (Note: the White Eyed Dragon is basically the God of this universe. I'll explain it in the end chapters if I don't forget.)
"And… Write your name and the date on the LEFT SIDE of the paper, because you tend to forget that, Aki." He'd say, munching on Magma Cow Jerky. "The date is May 27th, 2069." Mr. Surahara went on, rambling about random stuff as Hajime went to his seat.
Suddenly, a voice rang out from behind him,Uki. "Hey, Beastless!" He snorted, taunting him for his lack of Beasts. Then, his right hand man- or- girl- Yuki joined in. "It must be hard being a person without a Beast, huh!" She taunted, sticking her tongue out at him while pointing at him.
Hajime felt a familiar heat rise to his cheeks at Uki's words. He clenched his fists, willing himself to stay calm. It wasn't the first time he'd been teased for not having a Beast, but the jabs still stung.
"Yeah, well… Errr… You didn't even catch yours, your father gave it to you." he shot back, trying to sound confident, though he knew he wasn't as strong as Uki and his trusty Beast, a White Snow Lynx.
Uki laughed, his voice dripping with mockery. "Oh please, without a Beast, you'd be beaten to a pulp! You should really consider getting one. Maybe you could tame a Rock Beetle or something."
"Better than your old White Snow Lynx," Hajime retorted, turning around in his seat, his own smirk forming. "At least Rock Beetle don't squeal all night long."
Yuki gasped, pretending to be shocked. "Oh snap! Did you hear that, Uki? He's attacking your precious pet! How savage!" She nudged Uki, who feigned offense, placing a hand on his heart dramatically.
Mr. Surahara cleared his throat, trying to regain control of the room. "Alright, alright, enough of this nonsense. We're here to learn, not to bicker like Beasts over a bone." He adjusted his glasses, eyeing the pair. "Hajime, if you're done with your assignment, I suggest you focus on finding a way to get a Beast of your own. They could help you in more ways than you realize."
Hajime slumped back in his seat, frustration mingling with a twinge of sadness. He wanted a Beast—desperately—but it wasn't as easy as just wishing for one. Taming Beasts was a challenging endeavor, and he had never had much luck with them.
As the class continued, Hajime daydreamed about the upcoming summer break. "Maybe I'll find something in the forest," he thought, his resolve growing stronger. "I'll show Yu and Yuki that I can be just as good as anyone else, Beast or not."
Suddenly, Mr. Surahara interrupted his thoughts again, his tone more serious. "And remember, class, if you're out in the wilderness, be cautious. Not all Beasts are friendly, and some can be quite dangerous. It's important to respect their territory."
"Yeah, sure," Uki scoffed, rolling his eyes. "As if Hajime could handle a real Beast anyway."
Hajime gritted his teeth, but deep down, he knew he had to prove them wrong. This summer break would be different. He would find a Beast, and he would show everyone that he could be a part of the world they cherished.
"That's it… I'm catching a Beast as soon as summer break starts…" He said, his eyes glowing with a fierce determination. "Mr. Surahara, when does summer break begin?" He asked, raising his eyebrow a bit.
"Well... summer break starts this weekend, and since you've already completed your final exam for this class, you're all set," Mr. Surahara replied, his words quickly followed by Hajime's relieved sigh of happiness.
"Well... I guess that's good," Hajime started to say, but his voice was cut off by the loud ring of the bell, signaling the official start of summer break.
