Eliza hailed a cab and headed back to her apartment. Because of her strained relationship with her parents, as well as for convenience, she chose to move somewhere closer to her workplace. After she got out of the car, Eliza stood at near her neighborhood, falling into a trance. Robert was the one who had helped her when she was moving in. They had even promised to get engaged wher the time was right, and then they would get married. She didn't expect it all to become a cruel joke.
Eliza felt as if all the events of the day before had been a dream, a bad one. But it was real; it had happened.
"You're back." The moment Eliza stepped out from the elevator, she saw Hailey standing outside her home, looking tense and anxious.
Eliza furrowed her brows and turned to leave right there and then, but Shi Nuan felt as if all the events of the day before had been a dream, a bad one. But it was real; it had happened.
"You're back, Eli." The moment Eliza stepped out from the elevator, she saw Hailey standing outside her home, looking tense and anxious.
Eliza furrowed her brows and turned to leave right there and then, but someone grabbed her arm. "Eli"
Eliza stiffened. She wanted to fling Robert hand away, but he held her arm tightly. "Where did you go? Hailey and I have been waiting for you the whole night. Don't you know that we'll get worried about you?"
"Worried?" Eliza wanted to cackle. She looked up into Robert's eyes. "Do you actually worry about me?"
"Please don't lash out at us, Eli." Hailey came over, her high-heels clicking on the floor. She pried Robert's hand off Eliza and grabbed her sister's hand instead. "I know what we did was wrong, but Robert and I love each other. Robert doesn't have the heart to tell you..."
"Hah! He didn't have the heart to tell me, but he had the heart to betrayed me." Eliza roared. When she felt a stab of pain coming from her arm, Eliza frowned and flung Hailey away.
The latter screamed, staggered backwards, and fell down. Robert quickly rushed over to her and held Hailey in his arms. When he looked at Eliza, disappointment was apparent on his face. "You've gone too far, Eli."
"Don't get wrong, Eli" Hailey looked at her, disappointed, as if Eli was the one in the wrong here, not her. "Robert and I came here to clear things up with you. We didn't mean to hurt you. W-We really do love each other."
"Really? You disgust me." Eliza looked at Hailey coldly. She teared up, but tried her best to hold her tears back. Eliza glared at Robert angrily.
"You could have told me straight up if you didn't like me anymore, Robert. I wouldn't have clung onto you. I'm not that kind of person. And you! Hailey! You say you're my sister, but what did you do? You could have told me you liked him." Eliza was a mess of tears when she was done speaking. She couldn't understand why they chose to hurt her this way. One was her own sister, while the other was a man whom she had loved for three years.
Eliza slammed the door shut, but when the door was closed, she leaned against the door and slid down to the floor.
Hailey kept pounding on the door, speaking gently, as if Eliza were the sinner here. Silence finally came for her, and she welcomed it gratefully. Eliza sat on the ground, her arms around her legs. She curled up, the patch of fabric on her knees darkened from her tears.
----
On the other hand, Robert didn't look good after being chased out by Eliza and Hailey didn't look good either. She carefully looked at Robert tugging on his sleeve. Pitifully, she said, "I never thought that Eliza would take us that wrong? Eli has always been a headstrong person since we were kids, so she won't bow to anyone. I want to be with you, Robert. I don' want to get separated." Hailey leaned into his embrace and cried like a little girl.
Robert frowned, then he patted her back to console her. The modicum of guilt he had toward Eliza had disappeared too. "Don't worry. Why would be separated. We will talk to your grandfather when the time is right."
Hailey smiled after Robert made his promise. She held his arms and stood on tiptoe to kiss him. "I love you, Robert."
"I'll love you too." Robert held her and returned her kiss.
A long while later, they parted reluctantly. As Hailey leaned on Robert's chest, she smiled cruelly. Look, Eliza. The man you love most has become mine.
Eliza didn't sleep well throughout the night. When she saw how pale she looked, and how bloodshot her eyes were, she hurriedly splashed some water on her face. After noticing some color returning, she held the counter and looked at her reflection sadly.
"Wake up, Eli. You can get over this." Eliza giving herself her pep talk to cheer herself up.
