Chapter 9 - Against the Soulless [1]

"This is bad..., I'm in a disadvantage against these skeletons.", Angel muttered to himself.

The reason I was able to beat the monsters from before was because I amped up my damage output using my astral energy but using that energy with my currently weak body. Only asuras were able to use this energy originally and the only way why humans was able to utilize this was through continuous evolution to reach the same bodily physique of the asuras.

Angel took a look at the situation at hand... One of the swordsmen at the front was starting to getting exhausted from the continuous clashes with the dullahan. The dullahan, unlike the previous skeletons, has its own will and consciousness that is currently corrupted by an unknown source. It's skills are more heavy and versatile than a veteran's knight and it's weakness covered by its armor.

"This should be enough.", Angel says as he stops refilling Tesha's mana pool.

Tesha bursted with power, the effect of even the most little amounts of astral energy amplified her magic power by three-fold.

"Tesha! Cast your magic now!", the swordsman in the front shouts.

"H-huh? Yes!", Tesha responds.

Feeling her mana inside her, she immediately started her chanting and formed balls of flame projectiles that was aimed at the head of the dullahan.

"W-wait no!", Angel shouts.

Regardless, the projectiles connected with the head which momentarily stopped the dullahan in its tracks but soon resumed with its attacks at the tanks.

"I knew something was off, a normal Dullahan would have died from that unless... its a pile of bones controlled and is currently imitating a dullahan.", Angel muttered to himself.

The situation has gone wrong, I could still feel more of it down deeper the dungeon.. no, this isn't even a dungeon. It's a base for somebody that deals with the undead.

"Foolish mortals, to come and enter my chambers... How dare you!", the dullahan's head started to speak.

"Wha-"

Before the swordsman in the front could comprehend the situation, he was soon beheaded by the dullahan's sword after it's head spoke that left the others in fear.

"Kyaaa!", the archer screams at the sight of it's comrade dead body.

Tesha, the mage, vomited as she saw his head rolled to the ground and the other two swordsmen soon perished from the dullahan's attacks. The tanks lost their strength as they saw their comrades fall and was soon beheaded by the dullahan. The two other porters ran back to the upper floors but was met by skeletons that was revived by the unknown owner of the dungeon.

"Found it.", I grinned.

"W-wait, where are you going!", Tesha abruptly stopped me.

"I found it's weakness so just trust me.", I reassured her.

As the dullahan charged towards our direction, unsheathed my crimson blade and slashed a string connected to its body. The dullahan soon fell down to the ground.

"Arrogant fools, I applaud your skill to defeat my dullahan but you'll inevitably die as you go deeper. You also cannot run back for I have sealed the entrance as soon I felt your presence.", the dullahan's head on the ground started to speak once again.

The magic dissipated from the dullahan's head. Though with the power to force open the seal that shut them inside, Angel was lured in by the thoughts of the treasures that the owner had in store.

"If you wish to stay here, then just stay here.", Angel said to Tesha and the archer.
