To be honest, Owen felt a great deal of sympathy for the diviner siblings. But as a pub owner, how could he possibly defy fate?

A light bulb suddenly went off in Owen's head.

"The curse on your family has weakened over generations. Is it possible that the God of Fate isn't as angry anymore?" Owen's question made everyone exchange puzzled looks.

"Well, when you put it that way, it seems possible," Grand Archpriest Emil said. "Gods experience time differently than humans. A thousand years might not mean much to them."

"A curse is a curse," Amtea chimed in. "If it's a family curse, the punishment is usually the same for the first cursed individual and their descendants. Time doesn't water down a god's punishment, just like a god wouldn't dilute wine with water."
