If a female comes of age and has not found a suitable or fated mate within the first two winters, she will go into 'heat' in search of a male that can provide her protection and offspring.
The strength and status of the males are dependent solely on the female and her pheromones. If the female is powerful and pleasant to look at, unmated males will fight to the death or share if they are desperate to win.
If the female is left unmarked and unmated, the desire to be mated becomes impossible to suppress and consumes all rational thought until the process is complete.
Blah blah blah… Much like the monthly cycle of a female, the heat stirs for no more than five consecutive days each month, an intense and fleeting storm of need.
