Chereads / Rise : A Cat's Adventure / Chapter 10 - The Trouble continues(1)

Chapter 10 - The Trouble continues(1)

After the gruesome battle against the mutant frog, the gang is resting in a collapsed building.

A bonfire is lit in the corridor, burning vigorously and dispelling the darkness surrounding them. Offering them a slight warmth from the cold nature of reality.

Luna: Do you think we will be able to leave this city after we gather enough supplies?

Horvath: No, I don't think we would leave just by gathering supplies. We will need a plan, a whole lot of courage, a really insane man to charge forward, and a death wish so you don't have to regret after death.

Luna: I think we have everything except the last thing.

Nexus: We will. Don't worry.

Nexus(perplexed) : It happened again. Why do I talk unknowingly when ever I am with them? and it is starting to increase in frequency the more I stay with them.

He starts thinking about how he jumped to Luna during the fight. How he started to feel unknown things around them and how he talks unknowingly and without meaning (for him).

He starts to rise from the ground and starts to walk outside, wandering to his thoughts.

Into the night to think about his changes.

Watching him walk into the night, both Luna and Horvath start to think about the same thing.

About how he seems to be less cold and more... humane than when he first arrived.

Luna: Do you think he is becoming...

Horvath: Normal.. yeah.

Luna: I mean, its good, but what did cause that change?

Horvath takes a look at Luna and turns his eyes towards the direction Nexus wandered off to.

His eyes are showing contemplation when he starts to talk.

Horvath: When I first saw him, he was... wild. Savage. Like how a modern man thinks of cavepeople. That savage. I didn't see humanity or any other emotion in his eyes. Just a wild beast's gaze... predatory. Now he masked it, only showing it when needed. Like us. I don't think even he himself notices it.

Luna: That's... awfully detailed.

Horvath, tapping on Luna's head, says...

Horvath: That's why I say,...

Both Horvath and Luna together finish the sentence, their voices combining into a chorus.

Luna & Horvath: Learn to observe and analyze your opponents. no matter who they are.

Both of them then burst into low laughter, cautious of their surroundings. But still immersed in little happiness in a dark world. The scene reflects the bond that grows beyond a friendship. A Father and Daughter Bond.

Luna: Just it would have best with them together...

Memories of her times with her parents still alive flash through her mind, reducing her joy ever so little.

When she feels a hand on her shoulder, turning to meet Horvath's gaze, it is warm and calming.

Reminding her, her father, Marcus. And dispelling the sadness.

Luna, getting up and walking towards the outside, says...

Luna: I will go find Nexus.

Luna starts to search for Nexus when she finds him on the roof of a building. gazing towards the stars. Luna, now sitting beside Nexus, says...

Luna : I didn't know that you like to stare at the stars; how are they?

Nexus: Shiny.

Luna: That's... a way to put it. Any way, what are you thinking about so deeply? You didn't even react to my presence.

Nexus: Thinking about a plan for going outside. and some memories.

Memories start flashing in his mind. of his previous family until he was sent to a place where many people come and go. Many playmates died before him. How he was able to survive.

Luna (muttering): You have memories.

Nexus: what? Is it unbelievable?

Luna : No, we always thought you didn't have memories; you didn't talk much, and you obviously don't have common sense.

Nexus: I didn't want to talk, just like I didn't want to react to your presence.

Luna raising her head towards the moon and the stars...

Luna: It's beautiful, isn't it...

Nexus is turning toward the woods, where roars of different animals can be heard. says with a savage grin plastered across his face that he didn't know he even had, says.

Nexus: Beautiful, indeed...

The moon cast its silvery glow upon the deserted path, illuminating their way back to the camp. The night air enveloped them, filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers in a gentle moment, making their always tense relax.

Nexus and Luna walked side by side, their footsteps synchronized. Their bodies and spirits finally relaxed for a moment in this rare peacetime.

Away from the predators activity and the trouble of mutates.

In the distance, the night creatures sounds connect together, forming a chorus unique to the inner city.

Beautiful yet haunting, mesmerizing yet deadly.

A wolf's haunting howl echoed through the forest.

A hooting owl broke the stillness.

The chirping crickets provided a soothing background hum.

Luna: You have good sword skills, for a novice.

Nexus (puzzled): How did you know?

Luna : A new sword, you use it instinctually. Your muscles don't have definition. You're out of shape.

Nexus: It just comes to me. When I want to kill, I automatically find the most possible route.

Their footsteps slowed, and they halted near their temporary camp, ready to enter and rest for the night.

Luna turned to Nexus, asking...

Luna: Do you think we will leave this city?

Nexus stares at her for a minute and starts to walk into the camp slowly. Disappointing Luna. When she hears his voice in the air. With confidence, she didn't know where it came from.

Nexus: Absolutely.

Luna starts to laugh, her laughter ringing in the air and awaking.

As they stood there, the world seemed to slow. The tension of their battle melted away.

The wolf's howl faded into the distance.

The owl's sounds softened.

The crickets' chirping slowed down.

Luna clapped Nexus on the back. saying...

Luna: Let's get some rest; we have to continue.

Luna enters the camp to sleep, while Nexus continues to watch the stars and sits down in the cool wind. When he hears Horvath's footsteps, he proceeds to sit beside him and starts talking.

Horvath: Her father and I were in the same squad when we were in the army. Later, due to an injury, he got retired. Went home, took care of his family. Then it happened. His wife died; he got infected with bacteria or a virus. We didn't know what it was. Killed himself to reduce the burden on her... some times I wish I retired with him.

Nexus:...

Horvath: Anyway, get some rest; you need it for tomorrow.

Horvath starts to walk into the tent, continuing to rest. while Nexus continues to sit outside guarding the camp.

[after day break...]

The gang packs bags and sets of to search for supplies, continuing their mission for supplies and on their mission to leave the city, W-7.11.

Horvath: I see a supermarket there; we can search it for any supplies.

Nexus: Lets go!

The gang walks to the supermarkets when they feel a slight vibration from the ground. Luna and Horvath don't pay any attention to it. while Nexus cautiously crouches down.

When suddenly cracks start to appear on the path to the supermarket. Seeing this, Nexus immediately rises up, tackling Horvath out of the way and saving him.

At the same time, she is missing the chance to save Luna, who falls into the crack and into the sewers below the city, being submerged in the flowing sewage water.

Both Nexus and Horvath look at each other. and jump in the crack into the sewers. Ready to save their teammate and possibly gang member.

What is the cause of the crack? What is present in these sewers that makes Nexus uneasy? Is it another prey or a predator (a being at the top of a food chain in a zone)? There can only be one for each race in an area.)

What will be the final outcome?

To be continued!!!!
