The air in the dining hall was electric with tension, suffocating and heavy.
Bruno's voice cut through the murmurs and clinking glasses of the other patrons, sharp as the edge of a blade.
"I know I heard something," Bruno growled, his piercing gaze scanning the room. "I want to know what it was. Now."
Adrian rolled his eyes, obviously tired of Bruno and his tactics.
"Don't you think you're being a bit paranoid? To the extent that you're hearing things that aren't there" He said.
"Shut the hell up, Adrian " Bruno thundered.
Behind the bar counter, Rosa, Marcy, and I exchanged panicked looks.
My heart was pounding so hard I was sure everyone could hear it. Rosa's hand clutched my wrist, her grip tight enough to leave marks, while Marcy crouched beside us, her jaw clenched.
"This is bad," Marcy whispered, her voice low but urgent. "He's not leaving without answers."
