I sat on the edge of my bed, deep in thought, while Rosa perched on the armchair near the corner of the room, her expression a mixture of curiosity and concern.
I had spent the last half-hour considering what she'd told me about Greta, the old head maid of the Alfonzo estate.
If anyone knew the secrets of this household—about Bruno's first wife and the hidden truths surrounding her—it was Greta. But approaching her wasn't going to be easy.
Rosa broke the silence.
"You're quiet, Signora Maria. What are you thinking?"
I sighed, clasping my hands together.
"I want to know which information the old maid exactly might know about Bruno's first wife. I want to go ask her myself."
Rosa blinked, surprised.
"You want to do it yourself? Why? I thought we agreed I'd handle this for you."
I shook my head, giving her a tired but grateful smile.
