The darkness of the highway stretched endlessly ahead, punctuated only by the faint glow of our car's headlights.
The adrenaline from escaping the checkpoint had begun to fade, replaced by exhaustion and the quiet hum of the engine.
I glanced at Rosa, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, her eyes focused on the road ahead.
"It's getting late," I murmured, breaking the silence. "We need to find somewhere to stop for the night."
Rosa nodded but didn't take her eyes off the road.
"I've been thinking the same thing. Problem is, we don't know where we're going yet, so finding a safe place isn't going to be easy."
I sighed, resting my head against the window.
"What do you suggest? We can't just keep driving aimlessly."
Rosa shrugged, her voice calm but practical.
"We could sleep in the car. It's not ideal, but it's better than risking a shady motel or wasting time looking for a hotel we can't afford."
