For a brief moment, the Adventurer's half-lidded eyes flashed open, and the world around him became an unfocused blur; the figure blurred, leaving nothing but a vague impression.
His eyelids were barely open, letting the tiniest sliver of light through, and the dark shape in front of him started to resolve more clearly.
His head spun; it was as if the earth itself had turned beneath him, his eyes sliding once more into the dark.
A coldness enveloped him, both constricting and strangely soothing.
It seemed cold yet protective, as if the dark itself had come to wrap around him, to cover his face with its wings before death claimed him for its own.
He couldn't fight it. Maybe it was a sign — maybe this silhouette was here to save him, or put an end to his suffering once and for all.
Either way, he was unsure if he cared anymore.
