Chapter 21 - The Forge

Morning at the Training Grounds:

Kael, Jin, Tarek, and Darin stood on the dew-covered training ground, waiting for Rudra. The sun was barely peeking over the horizon, casting a soft orange glow across the field. Tarek yawned loudly, breaking the silence.

"Do you think Rudra overslept or what?" Tarek quipped, grinning.

Jin chuckled, stretching her arms. "Maybe he's still trying to figure out which direction the training grounds are."

Darin, ever serious, crossed his arms. "He'll be here. Besides, you should be focused on what's coming."

Kael, standing quietly beside them, cracked a smile at Jin's remark but said nothing. His mind wandered to the events of the previous days, but the banter between his companions helped ease his thoughts.

Just then, a familiar voice echoed from behind.

"Sorry, guys! I got lost in the path of life."

They turned to see Rudra strolling toward them with a sheepish grin, hands casually in his pockets. His carefree attitude always seemed to throw them off balance.

Jin groaned dramatically, "Of course you did."

Rudra stopped before them, giving them a once-over. "Alright, enough jokes. Let's get down to business." He gestured toward Darin. "Since Darin here managed to open his second orbit, he'll need the next three days to adapt and stabilize. As for you three," he pointed to Kael, Jin, and Tarek, "you'll have another competition against Team Kiran."

Tarek blinked in surprise. "Team Kiran again?"

Kael's eyes narrowed. He remembered the previous match—how they'd lost so miserably. His hand clenched involuntarily at the memory.

Rudra nodded. "Yep. This time it's three-on-three since Laura's already left . Their team will consist of Beni—he was the one who fought Kael last time." He paused for effect. "Then there's Ryo, who fought Darin before, and finally their commander, Soren."

Jin tilted his head. "What's so different this time? We already got wiped out once."

A smug look crossed Rudra's face. "This time, I'm going to teach you something new." He clapped his hands. "Up until now, you've all been using chakra to enhance your physical abilities. That's a basic technique. But today, I'll show you how to envelop your body in chakra—armor your skin, speed up your movements, strengthen your attacks, and even defend better."

Kael's interest piqued. "Armor our skin?"

Rudra nodded. "Yep. For example, if you envelope chakra around your feet, you can use it to increase speed with a sudden burst. Around your fists? Stronger attacks. Around your entire body? Well, that's a pretty good defensive technique."

Tarek crossed her arms. "Sounds easy enough."

"Let's see if you can pull it off," Rudra said, his tone challenging.

Rudra demonstrated the technique with fluid precision, enveloping his hand in a soft, glowing layer of chakra. He punched forward, and the air cracked with the force of his enhanced strike. "Your turn."

Jin, Kael, Tarek, and Darin all concentrated, trying to mimic his actions. But it wasn't as simple as Rudra made it look.

Tarek was the first to attempt it, but her chakra fizzled out just as it began to wrap around her hands. Jin, ever the jokester, shrugged as his attempt barely covered his fingers.

"Wow, Rudra," Jin said dryly, "You sure know how to make us feel incompetent."

Kael remained focused. His chakra flared to life, and unlike the others, he managed to envelop his hands with surprising ease. He felt the energy pulsing in his palms, and when he struck forward, the air rippled slightly. Not as strong as Rudra's, but progress nonetheless.

"Impressive," Rudra said, raising an eyebrow.

Jin, who had been watching Kael, clenched his fists. He tried again, and this time, his chakra flared more brightly, wrapping around his hands and feet. A look of satisfaction spread across his face. "Looks like I'm back in the game."

Tarek and Darin followed soon after, both managing to envelop their chakra around their bodies, though with some difficulty.

Rudra stood back, arms crossed, watching them with a mixture of pride and disbelief. "Are you all just naturally gifted, or am I a damn good teacher?"

Jin, not missing a beat, grinned. "Nah, we're just that good."

Before Rudra could reply, a faint chime echoed from his orb. He looked down, reading the message that appeared, his expression shifting into an awkward smile. "Uh… funny story, guys. I thought this training would take you at least a day to learn. But since you've all mastered it in record time…"

Jin smirked. "So what's the plan, sensei?"

Rudra scratched the back of his head. "How about this? You guys can either fight each other for practice, or just rest up for tomorrow's match against Team Kiran. I'd stick around, but…" He paused dramatically. "I've got to go help an old lady cross the road."

Before they could even process his words, Rudra disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving them standing in stunned silence.

Tarek blinked. "Did he… just ditch us?"

Jin clapped slowly, his face full of mock admiration. "Ladies and gentlemen, our teacher. Truly inspiring."

Kael sighed. "So what now?"

Daren's eyes gleamed mischievously. "We fight, obviously."

Tarek cracked her knuckles. "I'm in."

Kael smiled, nodding in agreement. It had been a while since he felt this eager to test his limits.

Jin stretched his arms, gripping his spear tightly. "Alright, let's get this started, then."

The four of them squared off, each feeling the growing tension in the air. Darin moved first, his sword drawn and ready, as he lunged at Kael with a flurry of slashes. Kael, quick on his feet and wielding his sword with confidence, dodged the initial strike, feeling the rush of air as Darin's blade whistled past him.

Kael retaliated with a powerful swing, his sword glowing with a faint blue hue as he applied the technique Rudra had just taught them. Each strike hit harder than usual, the chakra enhancing his blows, but Darin was agile, his movements sharp and calculated.

Darin smirked, feeling the momentum of the fight shift in his favor. He was overpowering Kael with ease, pushing him back with each powerful strike. Darin's swordsmanship was sharp, each swing calculated, and his chakra enhanced every movement. Kael, still adjusting to the newly unlocked second orbit of his chakra, struggled to keep up. His control was shaky, and the chakra flow through his body was unstable, leaving him vulnerable.

"Come on, Kael," Darin taunted, swinging his sword in a wide arc that Kael barely deflected in time.

Kael gritted his teeth, struggling to maintain his ground as Darin pressed his advantage. Each strike was faster, more relentless than the last. Kael felt himself sliding back, his feet skidding across the dirt, his muscles straining under the pressure.

But just as Darin's blade was about to come crashing down on him again, something shifted in Kael's mind. He remembered Laura's sword style when he fought her.

Suddenly, Kael's sword moved in a strange, almost fluid pattern, weaving through the air as if alive. Darin, caught off guard, hesitated for just a moment. That hesitation was enough.

With a swift movement, Kael countered Darin's next strike, his sword was subtle yet powerful . The blade moved unpredictably, cutting through Darin's defense like water flowing through cracks in stone. Darin's eyes widened as Kael's sword slipped past his guard and grazed his side, sending him stumbling back.

"What the—" Darin muttered, his hand instinctively going to the cut on his side.

On the other side of the field, Jin noticed the sudden shift in Kael's movements. His spear clashed against Tarek's daggers as they continued their duel, but his focus momentarily drifted. He narrowed his eyes, watching Kael's blade work with precision.

"That technique…," Jin thought to himself, his mind flashing back to the past. "That's Laura's sword technique. But how does Kael know it?"

Tarek, noticing Jin's distraction, took the opportunity to close the distance between them. She enveloped her feet in chakra, allowing her to move with lightning speed, and snuck behind Jin, her daggers poised to strike.

But just as she was about to land the hit, Jin suddenly spun around, his spear moving in a fluid motion that matched the unpredictability of Kael's sword technique. Tarek's eyes widened in shock as Jin blocked her attack with ease, his spear deflecting her daggers like they were nothing.

"Nice try, Tarek," Jin said with a smirk, "but you're going to have to do better than that."

Before Tarek could react, Jin swept her feet from under her with a quick, calculated spear strike. She fell to the ground, defeated.

"That's one down," Jin said, turning his attention fully toward Kael and Darin's battle.

Kael, now fully in control of the strange technique, was pushing Darin back. With each clash of their swords, Darin struggled more and more to keep up. Kael's movements were no longer unstable—he had found his rhythm, his chakra flowing smoothly through his body.

With one final powerful strike, Kael disarmed Darin, sending his sword flying through the air. Darin fell back, panting heavily, his hand clutching the empty space where his sword had been.

"I… I lost?" Darin muttered in disbelief, staring up at Kael.

Kael smiled, lowering his sword. "Looks like it."

Jin stepped forward, his spear resting on his shoulder. "Alright, Kael. Guess it's your turn now."

Kael turned to face Jin, the two locking eyes.

The two clashed in a whirlwind of movement, Jin's spear striking out like a serpent while Kael's sword danced in his hand with newfound confidence. Jin used the same strange technique Kael had just employed, his spear moving in unpredictable arcs that made it difficult for Kael to find an opening.

Kael, however, wasn't backing down. He focused his chakra into his sword, enhancing his strength and precision. Every strike was deliberate, every movement carefully measured. Jin, on the other hand, used his spear to keep Kael at a distance, countering his attacks with swift, precise movements.

The fight escalated quickly, both fighters pushing themselves to the limit. Kael's sword glowed brighter with chakra, while Jin's spear moved with blinding speed, each strike accompanied by a rush of wind.

But just as Jin landed a glancing blow on Kael's shoulder, Kael grinned. Using the momentum of the hit, he spun around, swinging his sword in a wide arc that forced Jin to jump back. The two of them stood, panting heavily, each waiting for the other to make the next move.

"You're not bad, Kael," Jin said, his voice strained but filled with excitement. "But I've got one more trick up my sleeve."

With a sudden burst of speed, Jin launched himself at Kael, his spear spinning in his hand like a whirlwind. Kael raised his sword, ready to meet the attack head-on.

The two clashed in a final, powerful strike that sent a shockwave through the field. For a moment, it seemed as if they were evenly matched.

But then Jin faltered. His chakra reserves were running low, and Kael's relentless pressure finally broke through. With one final push, Kael knocked Jin's spear from his hands and sent him crashing to the ground.

Jin lay there, breathing heavily, staring up at the sky. "Damn."

Kael fell to his knees beside him, laughing breathlessly. "Man, it felt like I got a load off my chest."

Jin chuckled, rolling onto his back. "Me too."

Darin and Tarek, watching from the sidelines, couldn't help but join in the laughter.

"Yeah, that was intense," Darin admitted, rubbing the cut on his side.

"Same here," Tarek added with a grin. But before she could say anything else, Jin turned to her with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Except you, Tarek," he said, smirking. "You didn't have any load on your chest to begin with."

Tarek's eyes widened in shock before narrowing dangerously. "What did you just say?!"

Before Jin could escape, Tarek tackled him to the ground, her daggers forgotten as she exacted her revenge. Kael and Darin watched in amusement, their laughter filling the air as Tarek chased Jin across the field.

On a distant planet, under a darkened sky, a massive structure towered over the surrounding landscape. The building was ancient, its stones worn but strong. It seemed as though it had taken centuries, maybe millennia, to construct—every inch of it radiating power and purpose. At the top of the building, etched in shimmering letters, were the words: THE FORGE.

A figure cloaked in shadows approached the grand entrance. His footsteps echoed ominously against the stone pathway. The air around him pulsed with an unfamiliar energy as he neared the entrance.

As he stepped forward, he spoke aloud, his voice reverberating through the space. "I am Gautam. I need to speak with your leader. Or should I say, The Warden?"

The massive iron doors creaked open, revealing a dimly lit interior. The figure entered, a serious expression etched on his face, his eyes betraying a sense of desperation as the heavy doors closed behind him with a resounding thud.
