Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Frozen Spirits

Ethan shot up from his chair, a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He remembered something else that had arrived with the yetis, something far more terrifying. He grabbed the radio, his hands shaking slightly as he tuned in to the emergency frequency.

"This is Ethan Parker, licensed contracted researcher on the plant farm project," he began, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at him. "I need to warn everyone working at night to be extremely cautious. My cameras have picked up something strange moving around after dark, and it's not the yetis. Avoid dark areas at all costs."

He paused, knowing he couldn't give a full warning without sounding insane. "Just… be careful," he added before shutting off the radio. He regretted not being able to explain more, but the truth was too bizarre to be believed without proof.

Ethan knew what those wicked freezing spirits were. They didn't have a name, but they were human-sized, humanoid ice spirits that floated around at night, knocking on doors and freezing everyone inside if they opened it. He had seen them in his previous life, and the memory still haunted him.

He turned to his camera feed, scanning the ground floor of his house. There, standing or floating just outside his door, was one of the supernatural entities. It looked almost attractive, its form shimmering in the dim light. It knocked gently, its voice quivering as it asked if anyone was inside.

Ethan's heart pounded, but he knew better than to answer. He watched as the spirit lingered for an hour, its presence a chilling reminder of the dangers lurking in the night. Finally, it departed, disappearing into the darkness.

He sighed in relief, but his mind was still racing. Soon, he began hearing reports from others over the radio. People were talking about strange noises outside, some vanishing without a trace, while others hunkered down, ignoring the sounds to survive another day.

Ethan knew he had to do more to protect his community. He couldn't let these spirits claim more lives. He needed to find a way to warn everyone without causing panic, to help them understand the danger without sounding like a madman.

As he sat back down, his mind churned with plans. The Deep Freeze had brought unimaginable horrors, but he was determined to face them head-on. He had survived this long, and he would continue to fight for as long as it took.

"Stay strong," he whispered to himself, a mantra that had carried him through the darkest times. "We'll get through this."
