Chapter 3 - The Isle and death

In Misho's team, there were 9 people. Jace, Elmira, Lena, Misho. Others had no name, actually, it was more likely he hadn't had the courage to ask them. After all, they were members of one of the others mercenary group and were only there because they lacked the personnel.

So, Misho called them based on their looks, the first one was a white man, therefore, Misho called him Gus—which means pale man in an ancient language—, the second and third were black men, Misho called them Cay and Man, the fourth and fifth were two women, Misho didn't gave them a name because they were from Vanguard, and the group said that their names were "Fiery" and "Justice".

Misho went with his captain, Lena, to talk about communication with the others group, they all agreed to use the isle radio, which had a frequency of 120Hz.

1 hour later

As the ship rocked gently beneath their feet, Jace eyed Misho suspiciously.

Jace: "You sure about this, Julian? Going back there, to that place? From what I remember, no one gets out alive."

Misho met her gaze, unflinching.

Misho: "We don't have a choice. There are people waiting for us."

Jace: "And what about the creatures? The ones your grandfather cooked up in those labs. We're not walking into some wildlife reserve. This is a graveyard."

Elmira: "The island's defenses… they'll be active. We'll need to bypass them if we want to reach the survivors."

Lena: "Enough," she interrupted, stepping between them. "We knew the risks when we signed up. Let's focus on the mission."

They were now five minutes away from the isle. Ebinigma was as salty as ever. The forests grew exponentially. It made him remember something his grandfather said, when he was still alive. His grandfather's voice still rang in his ears: "One day, this will all be yours, Misho. You'll see—the world will remember us, remember what we built here."

But Reese was wrong, the world remembered him not as a visionary—as a monster.

Suddenly, the ship shuddered, throwing Misho off balance. A sound, low and guttural, echoed from the distant shore. One of the mercenaries grabbed his rifle, eyes wide. It was Cay.

Jace: "What the hell was that?"

Misho stepped forward, squinting at the dense fog surrounding the island. For the first time in years, he felt the icy grip of fear.

Misho: "We've arrived."
