The day had begun breaking, brightening up the parts of the alley she lived close to. She limped softly avoiding putting too much pressure on her leg. With a heavy sigh, she vaulted across the stairs in other to reach the top of the stairs faster, gasping at the steam cloud her breath made in front of her.
She put on the hood of her coat and buried her hands in the depths of its pocket, then she walked a bit slower now that she had successfully climbed above the staircase. The street had no streetlamps and the roads were dark making it a bit difficult to navigate the street apart from the sun lights that reflected on the road. She picked up her phone which had broken as a result of it falling to the ground, from her pocket and switched on its flashlight, lightening the parts she walked.
Still gazing at what had happened earlier, she hurriedly detached the chains that were hooked to the door when she finally reached her house.
"Bella!" She called out, not patient enough to get into the house fully.
Bella who was still asleep responded with a moan focusing more on her sleep than the fact that her friend didn't spend the night at home which had never happened before. Nichole was the indoor type, she barely came out if it wasn't for work. She was most times compelled by Bella to go on blind dates which she most times declined. She enjoyed her space, using her free time to read novels and watch movies.
"Bella!" Nichole called out again, tapping Bella this time. "You can't believe what happened." Bella still struggled with the sleep that had captured her. " Bella! Bella! Bella!" She pulled Bella from side to side till she finally opened her eyes.
"Hey, Nicky" Bella sat up, stretching her body hard, with a yawn that followed soon after the stretch. "Where have you been? Where did you-"
"Something happened." Nichole caught into her questions. Her eyes wide opened as the scenes replayed in her head.
"What?" Bella asked in haste, too curious to be patient. Her eyes all cleared out and her legs were now on the ground. She knew that it had to be something serious because Nichole wasn't the type to tell things. She always kept things to herself except they were huge. And also because Nichole didn't sleep in the house, something she had never done before. It was big.
"You slept at Adrian's place? What happened?" Bella paced, anxious to hear what had happened. She had assumed it had to do with Adrian, Nichole's multimillionaire suitor who had been unto her for as long as she could remember. She met the guy on one of the blind dates Bella had forced her to go to. The guy was very rich and had the body, everything that Bella had wanted in a man but Nichole didn't care about all that, and she couldn't wrap her head around Nichole's principles and standards. For once, Bella had wished that he approached her instead of Nichole, but that wasn't the case and she respected that.
"Bella." Nichole paused, staring at Bella for a second. "There's nothing between me and Adrian and you know that"
"But why?" Bella asked frustrated. "This guy is damn rich and adores you. So why can't you just give him a chance?"
"It's not about the money Bella. You know I'm from a rich background and money had never been an issue if not because I ran away from home."
"So what is it about?" Bella asked, expecting an answer for once.
"He has an awful... you know what?" She asked, laughing short what she had intended to say. "Let's just forget about Adrain. I wasn't talking about him after all" She rolled her eyes, pushing her lips to the side as she talked. "So back to what I was going to tell you. It's about Stella"
"What about Stella? Did you find her?"
"No. But something happened when I went in search of her. So, I traced the blood stains I saw earlier which led me to the forest, while I was searchinging for her, something attacked me. Something huge" she said in an attempt to describe how huge it was.
"That's crazy" Bella exclaimed, shocked at the description Nichole made. "What was it?"
"I don't know. It looked like a wolf but it was way bigger.
"Jezz" Bella said, her mouth agape and her eyeballs shooting out. By this time, all traces of sleep had left her eyes making her fully awake. "So what did you do?" She sat upright.
"Now here's the interesting part," Nichole said. Bella paid more attention to her than she did before. "I picked a stone and drove the beast away, but as soon as it left, the was this guy standing there."
"Was he a werewolf?" Bella asked, giving Nichole a stunned stare.
"Nah," Nichole replied, moving her head from left to right. "He was scared and I could see it in him. Although he didn't acknowledge it, I know he was relieved that I scared the beast away." She continued shaking her head in disappointment.
"Was he cute" Gigless laced her tune
"He was okay" slightly lifting her shoulders. "He had these broad shoulders, bouncy hair curls that were dyed grey, a nice body, and silver eyeballs" she continued looking up at the ceiling like the picture she used in describing him was pasted on it.
"What's his name," Bella asked smiling hard.
"I didn't ask. He was very rude, insinuating that I was meant to be grateful for his help. He claimed that he drove the beast away." She scoffed. " He later helped me get here though. He carried me because I wouldn't walk and I acknowledged him for that but he didn't even reply" she said as the anger she felt began revealing itself again.
"Aww," Bella said dreamy. "Rude and handsome." She continued, placing her both palms on her cheekbone. "And he carried you here, he is also cool." She pulled her hands at Nichole, rubbing her continuously.
"I twisted my angle Bella, and that was why he carried me, nothing else" Nichole said showing Bella her legs which were now less swollen, contracting the proof she aimed at getting.
"You should thank him better when next you see him" Bella jacked up, patting Nichole on her shoulder as she went on to prepare for work.
"I won't even remember his face if we cross parts, because I didn't get to see his face clearly" Nichole stood up to join Bella in her preparations.
The day had already broken, reaching the time they prepared for daily. Nichole sluggishly walked through the door and leaned on the bathroom door as it dawned on her that she hadn't rested throughout the night. She lay on the door with her eyes shut, trying to get some sleep she knew wouldn't be possible. After a few minutes, she stood up from the door and went to prepare to take her bath. While they prepared for work, they got disrupted by a loud pounding on their door.
