S.H.I.E.L.D. demonstrated their superior operational efficiency, clearing the area at an astonishing speed. In response, the people who had been treating the place as a massive outdoor party cordially greeted the families of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and expressed their absolute compliance with the orders.
"Attention everyone, Duncan has also arrived in your area. Damn it, is this a coincidence?"
"There's even worse news. We couldn't trace the strange rainbow that came from outer space, but we can confirm it's closely related to that hammer."
"Based on a comprehensive analysis, we need to be prepared. The gods, who have been out of contact with Earth for thousands of years, might be on the move again."
S.H.I.E.L.D., as an organization, has access to all sorts of bizarre information. No matter how strange the event, comparing it with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s database always reveals some clues.
"The legendary Asgardians? Thor's Hammer?"
Coulson, rushing in a helicopter, was so worried he felt like he was going bald. He was deeply concerned about becoming the next Fury.
The appearance of the Bifrost and the suspected Thor's Hammer had attracted the attention of many interested parties.
On Earth, powerful organizations are not limited to S.H.I.E.L.D. alone. Similarly, records related to the various godly races are not exclusive to S.H.I.E.L.D.
As S.H.I.E.L.D. attempted to establish a quarantine zone to secure Thor's Hammer, more people intervened to disrupt their efforts and prevent S.H.I.E.L.D. from gaining control.
When more people tried and failed to lift Thor's Hammer, their interest was thoroughly piqued.
Perhaps... the owner of the hammer really is that guy?
Amidst this chaos, Thor arrived—not in a chariot, not on a steed, not with radiant light or majestic dragons, but with nothing more than a pair of rapidly moving feet.
In broad daylight, under the watchful eyes of countless observers, Thor regained his arrogance, laughing as he knocked down numerous agents with single punches.
"Mjolnir, my hammer!!"
This blond giant, even without his divine power, was incredibly strong, taking down well-trained agents as easily as if they were children.
Considering that the average Asgardian's physical strength is three times that of an ordinary Earthling, Thor, being the son of Odin and of royal blood, could easily overpower a group of superheroes with just his fists and feet.
Despite the large base and numerous well-trained agents, they were unable to stop Thor, who single-handedly took down a large number of them.
"Is this guy really Thor? His reckless behavior and arrogant actions make it hard to believe he's a god who's lived for at least a thousand years."
Coulson, arriving at the scene, assessed the performance of Odin's son.
Apart from being a formidable fighter with top-notch combat skills, there wasn't anything particularly special about him.
Should they just let him approach Thor's Hammer? It seemed a bit of a waste, as they had finally gotten the chance to study a mythical weapon, and the secret of why Thor's Hammer couldn't be lifted by others remained unsolved.
"Sir, he's breached the second line of defense. What should we do?" Hawkeye, the super-agent in charge of the defense, quietly drew his bow, aiming at Thor, waiting for Coulson's command.
Coulson hesitated, about to speak.
"Something else has broken in, and it's moving fast!" a technician adjusting the monitors shouted.
Everyone quickly turned to the cameras, their faces changing drastically.
They saw that the new intruder was a massive figure, extremely burly, who grabbed an agent and, using an extending fleshy appendage, instantly absorbed the person entirely.
"An alien?"
"It's a Deviant! And a very powerful one at that!"
Coulson took a deep breath, his heart sinking to the pit of his stomach: "Why is this thing here? It should be hundreds of kilometers away, being pursued by the Brotherhood!"
For a moment, Coulson suspected it was a trap, but quickly dismissed the idea, thinking it was either a coincidence—the Deviant passing by—or it was attracted by Thor's arrival on Earth and had come specifically for him.
The footage from the cameras confirmed it was the latter.
This incredibly strong, bipedal Deviant, running at high speed, completely ignored Thor's Hammer and headed straight for the other end of the camp, where Thor was located.
Along the way, anyone who tried to stop it was instantly absorbed, leaving not even a corpse or bones behind. This exaggerated absorption ability made Coulson's eyelids twitch in horror.
"What on earth has Magneto been feeding this thing to make it so powerful in such a short time?!" Coulson was both shocked and furious. This was no longer a monster they could handle.
He decisively called for backup.
Upon receiving the news, Fury was silent for a long time before finally saying in a grave voice: "Sending agents from S.H.I.E.L.D. won't be fast enough. That Deviant will kill Thor before they arrive."
"If Thor dies, we're all in big trouble. Who knows what's going on in Asgard right now, or what Odin's stance would be?" Coulson said with a grim face.
Just thinking about the consequences made his heart race. The entire Earth might have to bear Odin's wrath.
Meanwhile, Thor was completely oblivious, his entire focus filled with joy as he concentrated on his hammer.
"Hahaha, I've found you, old friend!"
The thousand-year-old Thor was still a young man at heart. His voice was robust, his body trembling with excitement as he joyfully rushed towards his hammer.
Just a few more seconds, and he would reach the hammer, grasp it, lift it, and regain his divine power, returning to Asgard!
This damned Midgard—he didn't want to stay here for a second longer!
But those last few meters seemed like an insurmountable chasm, as the Deviant arrived first, tearing through the barrier and confronting Thor.
"What is this?"
Thor stopped in his tracks, his hair standing on end, his strong combat instincts sounding the alarm.
This black humanoid creature blocking his path was incredibly strong—far beyond what he, without his divine power, could easily handle.
"Get out of my way! I don't care what you are. Anyone who stands in the way of Thor will die!" Thor's eyes flashed with a hint of savagery. He wasn't known for his patience; if he could kill, he wouldn't waste words.
In his centuries of conquest, even when offering enemies a chance to surrender, he would only ask once. If they refused, he would smash their skulls with his hammer without a second word.
Thor assumed that this creature was here to prevent him from reclaiming his hammer.
Another fool greedy for the power of the gods, Thor thought. He just needed to bypass this creature, grab the hammer...
And then there would be no more "then."
