Chapter 17: Divine Intervention
The celestial delegation descended upon Lanka in a blaze of golden light. At their head stood Indra, king of the devas, his thunderbolt crackling with barely contained power. Flanking him were Agni, god of fire, and Vayu, lord of winds.
Ravana and Rama, side by side, led their unlikely alliance to meet the divine visitors. The legendary warriors, Bhishma and Karna among them, formed a protective semicircle behind them.
"Ravana, demon king of Lanka. Rama, prince of Ayodhya," Indra's voice boomed across the courtyard. "Your alliance has shaken the very foundations of the cosmos."
Ravana stepped forward, his ten heads bowing slightly in respect but his stance remaining firm. "Great Indra, we seek not to disrupt, but to evolve. The old ways of conflict no longer serve our people."
Rama joined him, his voice clear and unwavering. "We stand for a future where demons and humans coexist in harmony. Surely, the heavens can see the wisdom in unity over endless strife?"
Indra's eyes narrowed, lightning dancing across his skin. "You speak of wisdom, young prince, yet you ally yourself with the very forces you were destined to destroy."
"Destinies can change," Bhishma interjected, stepping forward. "I have witnessed the strength of their alliance firsthand. Perhaps it is time for the heavens to reconsider their stance."
A murmur ran through the celestial delegation. Agni, his form flickering like a living flame, spoke next. "The balance of power has shifted. If demons and humans unite, what becomes of the divine order?"
"Perhaps," Ravana replied, his multiple voices harmonizing, "the divine order is not as fragile as you fear. Our alliance seeks to build, not to overthrow."
As the debate raged on, a dark shadow fell across the gathering. Kalasura's voice, like grinding stone, echoed from the void. "Fools! You debate while the very fabric of reality unravels. This alliance must not stand!"
Tendrils of chaos lashed out, targeting both the mortal alliance and the celestial delegation. In that moment, faced with a common threat, the lines between demon, human, and deva blurred.
Ravana's twenty arms moved in perfect synchronization, creating barriers of mystical energy. Rama's arrows, infused with divine light, pierced through Kalasura's shadowy assault. The legendary warriors and devas found themselves fighting side by side against the cosmic entity's onslaught.
As the battle raged, Indra found himself back-to-back with Ravana, their ancient enmity momentarily forgotten in the face of a greater threat. "Perhaps," the king of devas grudgingly admitted, "there is merit in your vision of unity."
