Hobert remembered that Fors Wall, a future member of the Tarot Club, had indeed sought Audrey's help to rescue Xio Derecha.
Audrey continued, "From what I understand, my friend is very willing to help the weak seek justice, and the person she injured is a thug from the East Borough. So, I want to help my friend clear her name."
She said, "Mr. Hobert, I believe you will also stand on the side of justice and give me the most reasonable advice."
Hobert thought for a moment before saying, "Miss Hall, perhaps what I'm about to say will make you uncomfortable, but it is my understanding of justice."
He unconsciously emphasized the word "justice," then pointed to a gardener in the distance. "Miss Hall, I believe your requirement for a gardener is to plant various flowers and know how to fertilize them."
Then he pointed to the maid following them. "I think your requirement for a servant is to be smart, cautious, and able to assist you in daily life."
Audrey didn't quite understand what Hobert was trying to convey but nodded in agreement.
Hobert continued, "But you don't require all their actions to be just or always stand on the side of justice."
Audrey was taken aback, realizing that Hobert made a good point. For gardeners and servants, only the most basic moral requirements are needed. No one would demand a gardener to have a just character when hiring them.
"So you don't need to require me to be just either, because being a lawyer is a job for me, just like being a gardener or a servant. Regardless of whether your request is just, I will provide you with the best advice and help I can," Hobert said.
"Because absolute justice may not exist in this world. What you consider just might be seen as evil or annoying by others."
"Although I haven't been in the legal profession for long, I've already lost hope in absolute justice. If you ever hear that I'm defending someone for free, it must be out of my conscience, not justice."
These were Hobert's reflections from the previous night. Although they didn't seem to help in summarizing the "Lawyer's principles," they seemed to help in being a good lawyer.
Perhaps out of trust in the Tarot Club members, and also a desire to show off, Hobert shared his understanding of justice with Miss Justice.
Audrey was greatly surprised by these words. "You are a knowledgeable gentleman."
At this point, they arrived at a secluded spot in the garden, where a round table and two chairs had been set up in advance, with some drinks and snacks on the table.
Audrey invited Hobert to sit down, and her maid asked Hobert, "Would you like coffee or tea?"
"Tea, please," Hobert began to analyze the case for Audrey. "There are two ways to clear your friend's name. One is to have your friend provide proof of being a mental patient, and the other is to have the injured person withdraw the lawsuit."
"Although the first method is simple, I prefer the latter because having proof of being a mental patient would bring many inconveniences to your friend's future life."
While speaking, he always felt someone was watching him. After finishing his words, he looked behind him and saw no one, only a golden retriever.
Wait! Could that be Susie?
Hobert activated his spiritual vision and found that the dog's weakness was its eyes, confirming it was Susie. For a Spectator, the most important part is the eyes. Without vision, they would lose most of their abilities.
Audrey noticed Hobert's unusual behavior and quickly asked, "What exactly should we do?"
Hobert pretended to be distracted and said, "I need to meet your friend in person and then talk to the injured person. It would be best to offer some money to have him withdraw the lawsuit."
He said, "Miss Hall, you can entrust this matter to me. I will talk to them tomorrow, and if we're lucky, this matter can be resolved in a day or two."
Through the conversation, Audrey had already established initial trust in Hobert. "I am happy to entrust this matter to you."
"Thank you for your trust. How much are you willing to spend to resolve this matter?"
"600 pounds, no more. The injured person is truly a thug," Audrey said.
Hobert smiled, "No problem. You can send someone you trust to assist me in resolving this matter."
By "assist," he meant having someone report the entire process of how Hobert resolved the issue to Audrey.
Audrey nodded, "Alright."
After discussing the case, they started chatting. Hobert shared some interesting stories from his university days, making Audrey, who had always been educated at home, yearn for university life.
It wasn't until almost noon that Barton finished his discussion with Earl Hall.
On the carriage ride back, Barton asked Hobert about the general content of his conversation with Audrey. Finally, he said, "You handled it well. This is an opportunity for you."
"Remember, Earl Hall dotes on his daughter and will likely give her no less than 300,000 pounds in assets. When this beautiful lady gets married, it will be a substantial dowry."
"As long as you gain her trust, you will have a steady stream of business."
300,000 pounds! Hobert thought about his 15 pounds of pocket money and suddenly felt like giving up. He wondered if Earl Hall was looking for a son-in-law.
Then he shook his head. Nobles value matching social status and dignity. Even if he wanted to be a son-in-law, he probably wouldn't have much of a chance. Better to give up on that idea.
The next morning, Audrey sent an assistant butler to "assist" Hobert in resolving Xio Derecha's issue.
Generally speaking, being an assistant butler in a noble family is a promising career. In Earl Hall's household, there are several assistant butlers, three of whom take care of the lives of Earl Hall's three children and assist them in managing their respective businesses or estates.
In the future, when Earl Hall passes away or his children get married, these three assistant butlers will likely become the official butlers for Audrey and her two brothers.
So, the person Audrey sent was a woman in her thirties named Lisa. She was well-dressed and serious.
After a brief greeting, Hobert invited Lisa to join him in the firm's two-wheeled carriage, heading straight to Minsk Prison.
There are three prisons in Backlund, two on the outskirts of the city and one within the city, known as Minsk Prison because it is located on Minsk Street.
In Hobert's understanding, Minsk Prison is more like a detention center, usually holding prisoners awaiting interrogation or trial.
Hobert had prepared the necessary documents the day before. After showing them to the prison guard, he quickly got the opportunity to visit Xio Derecha.
After waiting in the visitation room for a while, the door opened again, and a short girl with a slightly chubby face was brought in by the guard. She had delicate and soft features, but her eyebrows and eyes seemed immature, even a bit naive.
Judging by her height of less than 1.5 meters, Hobert was sure this was Xio Derecha.
