Truth was, I wasn't sure if I could handle it, whatever it was.
How was I supposed to find a murder.
No matter what, I'll have to involve Lucious.
All I knew was that being around Lucious made everything else feel distant, like the world shrank to just the two of us when we were together.
Even though he never liked to admit it, he made my heart race.
Before I could say anything else, the door creaked open, and Lucious himself walked in.
His eyes immediately locked onto mine, and my heart did a little flip in my chest.
What was wrong with me?
"Speak of the devil," Bailey muttered under her breath, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Are you here to apologize for dragging Jolyn into whatever is going on?"
Lucious raised an eyebrow, clearly unfazed by her accusation.
"I didn't drag her into anything. All I wanted was to help but of course I know you don't believe me."
