Chereads / Escapades of the realm lord and his family / Chapter 2 - The Call of the Family

Chapter 2 - The Call of the Family

As the preparation for the journey begin, the Realm Lord gathered his eccentric family: the Dragons, the world Eaters, the Nature spirits, and even the wise turtle carrying an entire world on its back.

Each of them has a unique perspective on the impending journey. Some are eager for adventure, while other are hesitant, fearing the chaos that might ensue with the Realm Lord leaving with all his family, leaving it unguarded.

The Realm Lord stood on the edge of his grand palace overlooking the expanse of galaxies swirling beneath him. The vastness of his domain, once looked awe inspiring, now felt like a cage. But today, something was different. Today, there was a sense of purpose in his heart, the excitement he had long forgotten was beginning to stir.

He raised his hand, the space shimmering with raw energy, and sent out a call. A deep vibration ripple through very fabric of space, resonating across dimensions and through every corner of the realm. His family would hear it, as they always did.

Within moments, the first to respond was selene, the most ancient of the nature spirits and the embodiment of the forests, rivers and mountains of millions of worlds. She materialized from thin air, her form shifted like wind through trees, her skin pale green and covered in glowing flowing vines. Her eyes glowed with ancient wisdom and the leaves and flowers that adorned her body rustled softly as she floaed before him.

"You have called my lord," Selene said, her voice a whisper of rustling leaves.

"Yes," the Realm Lord replied, "I grown tired of this eternal stagnation. So I believe it's time for us to leave."

Selene raised an eyebrow, the vines swaying around her curled a bit. "Leave? But the Realm… what if the worlds that we protect, the balance we maintain? Who will guide them if we are gone?"

The Realm Lord sighed. "The balance is in place. The realms do not need us to hover over them like protectors anymore. I seek adventure, Selene. I seek the unknown."

She studied him for a moment, then nodded slowly. "The forests have whispered of your restlessness. But I did not think you would actually seek to leave. And yet… I can feel the winds of change."

Before they could speak further, a loud thud shook the ground as Gorath, the youngest of the world-eaters, landed beside them. Towering over both, Gorath's immense form was covered in a thick, rocky hide. His presence exuded raw power, and yet his expression was always strangely… curious.

"What's this about an adventure?" Gorath rumbled, his voice deep enough to make the ground vibrate. His eyes gleamed with enthusiasm. "I heard Vornak talking about taking the ship out for a spin. Is that true?"

The Realm Lord smiled. "Yes, it is. We're going beyond the realm. Seeking out new challenges."

Gorath's grin widened, revealing rows of sharp, glistening teeth. "About time! I'm tired of sitting around. Haven't had a good planet to chew on in ages."

Selene sighed softly. "Must you always think of destruction?"

Gorath chuckled. "It's what I do best, nature spirit. Besides, what's the point of being a world-eater if I don't get to eat a world every now and then?"

Selene rolled her eyes but said nothing further. The balance between creation and destruction had always been a delicate one, and she had long ago accepted that Gorath and the others had their role to play.

Before any more could be said, the air crackled with energy, and a massive shadow loomed over them. Descending from the skies in a slow, deliberate manner was Mundis, the colossal cosmic turtle. On its back, an entire world thrived, with mountains, rivers, and forests spread across its shell. Tiny civilizations lived in harmony, unaware of the vast universe beyond.

Mundis' deep, rumbling voice echoed across the space. "Adventure, you say?" His voice was slow, deliberate, ancient. "I have wandered the edges of the universe for millennia, yet there are places even I have never ventured. I sense your heart's yearning, Realm Lord."

The Realm Lord looked up at the turtle, whose wise gaze never failed to calm him. "It's time, Mundis. We leave soon. The Eternal Voyager awaits."

Mundis nodded slowly, the very motion causing ripples in the clouds above his world. "I will accompany you. Perhaps there are new lands for me to explore as well."

As the conversation continued, the sky above shifted, darkening as if to herald the arrival of something vast and powerful. A low growl reverberated through the air, and the enormous silhouette of Drakken, the fire dragon, emerged from the horizon. His shimmering, molten scales glowed like embers as he flew in low, his massive wings casting a shadow over the palace.

Drakken landed with a roar, his molten eyes locking onto the Realm Lord. "Adventure, is it?" His voice crackled like fire. "It's been far too long since we've had a challenge worthy of our strength. Tell me, Lord, are we to fight, conquer, or simply… explore?"

"All of the above," the Realm Lord replied. "I don't know what lies ahead, but I intend to find out. It's time we lived again."

Drakken grinned, a thin trail of smoke rising from his nostrils. "Good. I was growing tired of peace."

As the dragons, world-eaters, and spirits gathered, the air around them shimmered again, and with a sudden burst of light, the last member of the family arrived: Tierra, the Earth Spirit. She was as ancient as Selene, but her form was more grounded, made of rock, soil, and minerals. Her body shifted between solid stone and soft earth, and her presence felt like the weight of a mountain.

"Leaving the realm?" Tierra asked, her voice as deep and steady as the ground beneath them. "Is this truly wise?"

"Perhaps not," the Realm Lord admitted. "But it is necessary. We have been stagnant for too long."

Tierra frowned, but after a moment, she nodded. "Very well. If this is your wish, then I will accompany you. But know this, Lord—should we abandon the realm for too long, the balance may be disrupted."

The Realm Lord nodded. "I am aware. But I believe the realm will survive without us for a time. The realm have learned to thrive with or without us watching over every moment."

Tierra hesitated for a moment longer, then finally nodded. "Very well. If you believe it, I will trust your judgment."

From the distance, the Eternal Voyager emerged through the clouds, its massive, shimmering sails casting a faint glow as it moved through the skies like a phantom. Its hull, made from the heartwood of an ancient cosmic tree, creaked with life. The ship was unlike anything in the universe, its construction a fusion of magic, cosmic energy, and ancient technology lost to the stars.

The Realm Lord's heart swelled with a long-forgotten sense of excitement. There it was—their ship. The vessel that had once ferried them across the stars, when every corner of the cosmos still held new mysteries and dangers. The Eternal Voyager had seen countless realms, its crew tasting every form of adventure imaginable.

And now, they would once again set sail.

As the ship hovered above, a figure leaped down from its deck with agile grace. Captain Yara, the pirate queen and the one responsible for the ship's command, landed softly beside the Realm Lord. Her weathered face split into a grin, her gold-plated eyepatch glinting in the light.

"So, it's true, eh?" Yara said, her voice thick with excitement. "The great Realm Lord, abandoning his throne to roam the stars once more."

The Realm Lord chuckled. "I grow weary of thrones, Yara. It's time for something new."

Yara laughed, her voice carrying across the space. "New, old, dangerous—it's all the same in the end. As long as we're sailing, that's enough for me." She glanced at the gathering of dragons, world-eaters, and spirits, her grin widening. "Looks like the whole crew's coming along. This'll be one hell of a voyage."

Gorath rumbled in agreement. "We're not leaving anyone behind, are we?"

The Realm Lord shook his head. "No, we're all going. Every last one of us."

Captain Yara's gaze turned toward the ship. "Well, then. The Eternal Voyager is ready. Her sails are primed, and the stars are waiting."

A powerful gust of wind swept through the palace grounds as the ship's massive sails unfurled, catching the cosmic winds that blew between galaxies. The ship hovered just above the palace now, casting a long shadow over the gathering.

Drakken flapped his massive wings and rose into the air with a roar, circling the ship. "It feels good to fly again."

The other dragons followed suit, their scales glimmering in the light of the stars above. Even the massive Mundis stirred, shifting his great bulk to move toward the ship, the world on his back rippling slightly as his great legs moved.

As the Realm Lord prepared to step aboard, Selene floated close to him, her eyes full of concern. "I sense the realm will change in your absence," she said softly. "The trees have whispered of unrest. There are forces, old and forgotten, that may stir once we leave."

He placed a hand gently on her arm, feeling the soft pulse of life beneath the vines and bark that made up her form. "Let them stir," he said. "The realm can no longer be a prisoner to its own stability. If something is meant to happen, it will. And when the time comes, we will return."

Selene searched his eyes, then nodded, though her concern did not fully fade. She floated back, watching as the Realm Lord turned to the ship.

With a deep breath, he took his first step aboard the Eternal Voyager in what felt like a lifetime.

The deck of the ship felt alive beneath his feet. He could feel the hum of its magic, the pulse of the cosmic energy that powered it. The sails snapped in the wind as the ship bobbed gently in the air, as if eager to begin its journey.

Captain Yara stood at the helm, her hands gripping the ship's wheel. "Where to, Lord of the Realm?" she asked with a sly grin. "Where do we start?"

The Realm Lord stepped forward, his eyes scanning the endless expanse of space and stars before them. For the first time in centuries, the possibilities seemed limitless. Adventure, danger, discovery—it was all out there, waiting for them.

"I don't care where," he said, his voice filled with renewed purpose. "Just take us beyond the edges of this realm. Somewhere I've never been."

Yara's grin widened. "Aye, as you wish."

With a flick of her wrist, the ship lurched forward, and the Eternal Voyager began to move. Slowly at first, then faster, as it gained momentum. The sails caught the wind of space itself, and the stars around them seemed to blur as the ship surged ahead.

Drakken and the other dragons flew alongside, their wings beating in sync with the ship's movements. Gorath and the world-eaters stomped aboard, their massive forms barely fitting on the deck. Selene, Tierra, and the other nature spirits floated beside the ship, their ethereal forms gliding through the void with ease.

As they left the realm behind, the Realm Lord felt a weight lift from his shoulders. The monotony, the routine, the endless cycle of creation and control—it was all behind him now. Ahead, there was only the unknown. And for the first time in eons, the unknown excited him.

He stood at the bow of the ship, watching as the stars ahead grew closer, the galaxies spinning around them like a vast, cosmic sea. His family gathered around him, the ones who had been with him since the beginning, and yet who would now share in this new journey.

"Hold fast," he called out to them. "We are leaving the known universe. From this point on, anything is possible."

The crew braced themselves, each one ready for whatever lay ahead. And with that, the Eternal Voyager plunged into the void, sailing through the stars, toward adventure.
