Aren felt a sense of peace while resting among the insects, but that tranquility was suddenly shattered by a disruption in the environment. He could not only hear the whispers of the bugs but also sensed that something was going wrong.
"Haah, why am I playing the lackey for people like this?" murmured a short, brown-haired boy. This boy was someone they had sent to pick up a few things from the market, connected to the people Aren had killed before. When he hurried back, the scene before him left him horrified: three corpses lay on the ground, and Aren was trying to stuff them into a bag. The boy stood frozen, unable to believe his eyes, unsure of what to do.
The boy quickly hid in a corner and began to watch Aren. Once Aren left the area, he took a deep breath, feeling relieved. "Should I go to the police?" he thought. But would that even help? The crime rate in this city was so high that he knew people didn't trust the police. A fear rose within him; what if Aren did something to him as well? Not knowing what to do, the boy decided to wait quietly in the corner. As his thoughts became tangled, the only thought that emerged in his mind was that he couldn't share this situation with anyone.
Police Station
Inside the police station, everyone was bustling about. A police officer called out to a colleague, "Hey, special unit personnel are supposed to arrive in the city today." The other asked curiously, "What does special unit mean exactly?"
"I don't really know," replied the first officer, "but I heard they're very important people, the highest authorities working for the state."
As the officers continued their conversation, the door opened, and two people entered. One was a woman, and the other was a man. Both were dressed in special uniforms and stepped into the room with a confident demeanor. At that moment, the atmosphere in the station shifted; everyone turned their curious eyes toward them.
Immediately, the police chief walked toward the newcomers. "Welcome. Is there anything we can assist you with here?"
The man, shaking the chief's hand, introduced himself, "Hello, my name is Liam. This is my partner, Olivia." Liam's handshake appeared self-assured.
Olivia nodded with a slight smile. "Hello," her voice was gentle yet clear.
Police Chief Jasper replied with a smile, "Nice to meet you. My name is Jasper." At that moment, the tension in the office eased a bit. The other officers began to watch with curiosity as Liam and Olivia had arrived.
Once they entered the room, Liam immediately got to the point. "Chief of Police Jasper, have you received any strange reports in this city?" his tone serious.
Jasper responded with a smile, "Hahaha! We receive so many reports in this city that it's hard to keep up. What kind of report are you looking for?"
Liam, growing more serious, said, "Strange things. Claims that people are doing things they shouldn't be able to do. For example, someone suddenly disappearing and then reappearing," he stated. Jasper thought for a moment, and his expression changed. "Actually, we have received such reports, but we didn't take them seriously because they seemed unrealistic."
Olivia, curious, asked, "Can I take a look at the reports?"
Jasper stood up and pulled out a few files from the table. "Here you go."
Olivia quickly began to review the documents. Her eyes immediately caught one report. It read:
"My house is overrun with bugs; please someone help! Everywhere is filled with insects; I can't sleep at night. It's not just in one room, it's in the entire house. They're moving on the walls, ceiling, and floors. They even come into my food. I'm afraid of losing my belongings. What should I do? Who should I share this situation with? Please help!"
Olivia was taken aback by the tone and urgency of the writing. "We have to take this seriously," she said. "If this is true, the man could be in serious danger." As Jasper reviewed the file, he added, "Maybe it's an insect infestation."
Liam, excited, said, "Let's head to the location of the report!" He immediately stood up, and they left the police station. As they got into the car, Olivia asked, "Do you think this person might be a Vex owner?"
Liam, taking the wheel, replied, "Most likely. If he can attract so many bugs, he probably has the insect type Vex ability," he said while driving carefully.
Olivia, with concern, inquired, "What if he's a bad person? What should we do?"
Liam's voice turned cold. "Then we will eliminate him."
They stopped in front of the apartment and carefully looked at the building; everything seemed normal from the outside. They entered and headed toward apartment number 4, where the report had originated.
"Zrrrrrr!" They knocked on the door, but there was no answer from inside. They knocked again, "Zrrrrrr!" But once again, they were met with silence.
Impatiently, Liam approached the door and kicked it hard; the door flew open off its wooden frame. As they entered, a horrifying scene awaited them: spider webs stretched across the walls, and various types of bugs crawled on the ground, human bones scattered carelessly.
Aren was still lying among the bugs, but at that moment, the insects were trying to convey something to him. Aren slowly began to understand the situation. When they said, "There are intruders in my territory," he grasped what they meant. It meant dangerous individuals had entered his domain. His instincts kicked in; he immediately stood up.
Carefully observing his surroundings, Aren watched the movements of the insects. It was as if they were guiding him. Taking the situation seriously, Aren decided to move quickly.
