Chapter 31 - ch 31 A Night under the stars

After a long day of battling drakons and other monsters, the group finally set up camp in a small clearing surrounded by towering trees. The air was crisp, and the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the landscape. Cordelia took a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature before turning her attention to dinner.

"Okay, everyone! Time to eat!" she called out, her excitement palpable.

She pulled out her magical bag, reaching deep inside to retrieve her special cooking supplies. Today, she was making steaks, a rare treat during their quest, and she also had chilled drinks ready to serve. The familiars gathered around her, their eyes bright with anticipation. Bubbles and Flame swam through the air, eager for the special food she had prepared just for them—tiny, magical treats that helped recharge their energy.

As the steaks sizzled over the campfire, the rich aroma filled the air, making everyone's mouths water. Annabeth set up a makeshift table with some flat rocks, while Luke collected firewood to keep the flames roaring.

"Wow, this smells amazing, Cordelia!" Annabeth said, glancing over at the grill. "Do you have a fridge in there or something?"

Cordelia laughed, a bright smile lighting up her face. "Actually, I do! My brother made me a mini fridge and freezer for my bag a couple of months ago. It keeps everything nice and chilled!"

The group exchanged incredulous glances. "You have a fridge in that bag?" Luke asked, raising an eyebrow. "What else can it do?"

Cordelia shrugged playfully. "Oh, you know, just the usual. I can store anything I need, from cooking supplies to medical kits. It's like a never-ending treasure chest!" She turned to her familiars. "Hey, you two! Ready for your special treats?"

Bubbles and Flame nodded eagerly, their excitement infectious. She handed them the special food, and they devoured it with delight, their energy visibly replenished.

As they enjoyed their dinner, the atmosphere shifted to one of camaraderie and warmth. They shared stories of past adventures, laughed over old memories, and even teased each other about their quirks. Annabeth and Luke exchanged glances, their chemistry evident as they playfully argued over which of them had faced the most terrifying monster.

"Remember that time you thought you could take on a hydra alone?" Annabeth teased, smirking. "I had to rescue you!"

Luke chuckled, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "That hydra was nothing! I just got a little... distracted."

Cordelia watched them, her heart swelling with happiness for her friends. Moments like this were what she cherished most—simple, yet profound connections forged through shared experiences.

As the stars began to twinkle overhead, they settled into a comfortable silence, the crackling of the fire the only sound breaking the stillness. Cordelia pulled out her trident, twirling it playfully in her hands, while her silk scarf lay draped beside her, a constant reminder of her unique abilities. The familiarity of her weapons brought her comfort, reminding her of her strength.

"Do you ever feel like we're just a bunch of misfits?" Clarisse said suddenly, her voice softening. "I mean, look at us."

Nico nodded, leaning back against a tree. "Yeah, but we're a powerful misfit crew. We've taken down monsters that others wouldn't dare approach."

"Exactly," Cordelia added. "Together, we can face anything. That's what makes us strong."

They shared a collective nod, a silent agreement that their bond was unbreakable. As they prepared for bed, Cordelia felt a sense of contentment wash over her. Even in the midst of danger, they had created a family—a chosen family that would stand by each other no matter what.

As they settled into their sleeping bags, Cordelia couldn't help but feel grateful. Tomorrow would bring new challenges, but tonight, they were safe, together, and surrounded by friendship.
