Chapter 4 - Oh

Adrian, Gloria and Manny officially met Jay's family after he invited them to a family lunch on Sunday. Gloria was extra nervous to meet her boyfriend's kids and grandkids, running around the kitchen, making sure the food was delicious and ready. While Manny was upstairs picking a good outfit (his wardrobe got upgraded thanks to Jay), Adrian approached his mother.

"Mama, you've got to calm down, you'll get burnt by how fast you're moving around."

"Papi, I'm so nervous what if they don't like the food?"

"Your food is amazing! If they don't like it it's on them. Plus Jay likes the food! Right Jay?" Adrian turns to Jay who is lounging on the couch.

"I don't know what he said, but you should listen to him Gloria." Jay answered.

Gloria still looked nervous so Adrian approached Jay. "Mum is nervous about your family coming over, I think you should have a talk to her about it." He said while looking a bit frustrated.

Jay looked at him and nodded, he lifted himself up from the coach, gave Adrian a pat on the shoulder and approached Gloria. Adrian lingered for a while watching the two talk, finally Jay pulled Gloria into a hug.

Adrian felt happy for his mother but couldn't help but feel that pang of fear. So he squished it down and went upstairs to look for Manny.

"Manny, you've been changing for the last two hours. I'm suprised the clothes aren't all dirty by now."

"Adrian! What do you think of this outfit. I'm thinking of- approachable yet classy vibes."

"Yeah looks great! Now hurry down stairs they'll arrive soon."

"Wait- what about this outfit instead." Manny reached for another shirt but Adrian gathered all the shirts piling up on his bed and shoved it into the closet.

"That outfit is fine, now clean your room and meet me downstairs in 5. You wouldn't want to be late."

Manny pouted and began putting away his clothes.

*ding dong* "we're here!" A female voice shouted.

Adrian quickly went down stairs. He first saw a blonde middle aged woman hugging his mother and a man standing stiffly behind her. They both had large smiles although the woman's seems a bit forced. Finally three kids entered trailing after their parents. He feels his head hurting a bit.

Gloria notices her oldest standing on the stairs and waved him down. "Adrian, come down here!" Then she turned to the family. "This is my eldest son Adrian!" She proudly presented him whilst wrapping him arms around his shoulder. "And my other son-"

"Hello, I'm Manny, it is a pleasure to meet you all." Manny appeared out of nowhere. With a big smile he looked at everyone and lingered on Haley for a while.

Adrian sensing his brother's crush gently shoved him out of his daze. "Hello everyone, it's nice to meet you all." He smiled kindly, not noticing both Haley and Alex blushing.

"Hi, I'm Claire! I'm Jay's oldest daughter. This is my husband Phil and my three kids, Haley is oldest then Alex and finally Luke." She gestured to her family.

"Phil Dunphy." Phil stepped up and shook went to shake Gloria's hand, Adrian noticed him ogling her chest so he stepped between them subtly and with a big smile he shook Phil's hand instead. A little suprised Phil still kept his smile and gave Adrian an awkward pat on the side of his arm.

The family moved to the living room when Claire asked. "Gloria how old are your kids? They seem like they're around the same age as my two youngest. Oh Haley is 14 turning 15, Alex is 12 and Luke is 9"

Happy that she gets to talk about her kids, Gloria pulled the closest one (who happens to be Manny) towards her. "Manny is 9 this year and Adrian over there is 13."

Hearing his name Adrian turned to his mom with a questioning look. She smiled and shook her head telling him it's okay. He shrugged at went on talking with Phil and Jay.

"We're here! We're here!" A voice announces. Everyone turns their head to the two new additions.

"Hi you must be Gloria." The bigger, more flamboyant man approaches Gloria and gives her a tight hug. "I'm Cameron Tucker, this one's boyfriend." He giggles. The man behinds him stiffly smiles.

"I'm Mitchell." He says shaking Gloria's hand next. Then after a moment, flustered he explained, "Jay's son, I don't know if he told you about me-" and begins rambling.

Claire approaches, puts her hand on Mitchell's shoulder and with an awkward smile she says to Gloria, "we're not weird I promise."

Adrian takes this moment to approach Mitch and Cam. "Hi! I'm Adrian, Gloria's son. I've heard a lot of about you from Jay." He politely smiles.

"Yes I can confirm, Jay has mention you all on many occasions." Manny adds. "Ah I'm Manuel, you can call me Manny."

"Good! Now that introductions have been made can we finally eat lunch?" Jay cuts in, disgruntled. Both Gloria and Claire glares at him and he gives an innocent, "what? Gloria has been cooking all morning, Columbian dishes from her hometown. It is rude to let it cool."

The family settle at the dining table and Gloria says. "I am very happy to meet Jay's family, these are all dishes taught to me by the women of my family. I hope you all enjoy it."

It was that moment, when Adrian was sitting amongst the family and finally having a clear view of everyone did his headache clear and a new memory popped up. Visions of a family sitcom entered his mind with all their antics and goofy interactions. 'Holy sh** no wonder mom looked familiar. I'm in Modern Family.' He thought. Breaking from his daze he secretly observed the family with a renewed giddiness. He didn't know why he was placed in this world, but best have fun with it. He's gotten extremely attached after all.

As the family are their meal, at first everyone was praising Gloria's food but an incident happened. It began with Luke wincing and screaming for water. Phil, panicked went to give him the closest cup only to also wince and drink the water. Claire, alarmed asked her husband and son what was wrong only to met with cries of help and watery eyes. The family paused their meal confused when Alex took a tentative bit of a piece of chicken then let out a squeek.

"The chicken-" She said and dropped the chicken.

"Huh there's nothing wrong with the chicken?" Adrian said whilst taking a bite of his own piece.

"It's so spicy!" Luke finally managed to say. He then stood up and rushed to the toilet. Phil quickly followed.

"Ay I'm sorry, the chicken dish is Adrian's favourite, so I made it extra spicy for him. I forgot about everyone else's spice tolerance." Gloria sheepishly said.

"Oh well, surely it isn't that bad." Cam said and reached to grab a piece for himself.

"Cam no-" Mitchell tried to warn.

And hence began the chicken incident. Where the family avoided that one specific dish. (Gloria offered to make a non spicy version but the family was too scared to eat it)
