"Hi, do you want to be part of our team?" I asked, stepping forward with a friendly smile.
She glared at me, her expression immediately hardening. "Why? Who do you think you are? Do you pity me? Don't bother! I can survive and get out of this cave without anyone's help!" Her voice was sharp and angry, drawing the attention of the other students around us.
I blinked, startled by her outburst. The heat of embarrassment crept up my neck as curious eyes turned toward us.
"Err... That's not what I meant," I stammered, trying to salvage the situation. "It's just that... we noticed you didn't have a group, and we could really use someone with your strengths."
She crossed her arms, clearly still on the defensive. "I don't need your charity."
