SCARLET
I sat alone on the grassy field, the warm sunlight brushing against my skin as I watched the other students go about their day. Some were practicing their magic, their abilities lighting up the air with sparks and flickers, while others were laughing in groups, carefree and content. It was the kind of scene that usually helped me relax, but today, it wasn't working.
I was still upset with Ruffa and Addie. How could they say something like that about Micah? Someone who had been nothing but kind and supportive to me. The words they said earlier kept replaying in my mind, their doubts and accusations cutting deep.
"She might be betraying you, Scarlet."
Those words stung more than I wanted to admit. Betray me? Micah? The same person who always had my back when I needed it the most? It didn't make sense. How could they think that about her? And why couldn't I shake the nagging feeling their words left behind?
