Scarlet
Curiosity won over fear, and I peeked around the shelf, cautiously moving toward the sound. My breath caught as I saw a figure slumped against the wall, hidden behind one of the massive bookcases.
"Micah?" I called out, my voice trembling slightly.
The figure stirred, and as I stepped closer, I froze. Micah was pinning someone—another woman—against the floor. The scene was so bizarre, so utterly out of place in the quiet sanctity of the library, that my brain struggled to process it.
"What's the meaning of this?" I blurted out, louder than I intended.
Micah's head snapped toward me. For the briefest moment, I saw shock flash in her eyes, but it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by a sly, confident smirk.
"Scarlet," she said, her tone infuriatingly casual, as if I'd just caught her rearranging bookshelves instead of being entangled with someone on the floor. "This… isn't what it looks like."
