"You know the consequences of showing your dragon around without completing the ritual," my father said firmly. I nodded, knowing he was right. I should feel guilty about it—sad, even—but my mind was a mess.
I couldn't think straight. My heart felt heavy, broken into too many pieces to put back together. All I wanted was to run away, to shut myself in my room and disappear from the world for weeks.
But then I looked at Dracu.
She stood by my side, her gleaming scales catching the sunlight, her eyes filled with an understanding that seemed almost human. She nudged me gently, as if sensing my turmoil, and let out a soft, reassuring rumble. It was like she was telling me, I'm here for you.
"I'm sorry," I whispered to her, stroking her neck. "I dragged you into this."
Dracu made a low growl, shaking her head slightly. It was almost like she was scolding me for apologizing.
