After I finished explaining my situation, both Angel and Alex burst out laughing. I wasn't sure what part of me dying was so funny, but I decided to let it slide... for now.
"Haha, damn, that's hilarious!. Man, I needed that," Angel said, his laughter finally dying down.
"{Francis... I recommend hitting them with some Void. Their laughs are really starting to annoy me,}" Quinella suggested.
Oh yeah, I named my Ghost Quinella, by the way. I thought of giving her a name inspired by something I saw around here, but the only things around were trees, bushes, and guns. I couldn't exactly name her R301, right?
In the end, I chose Quinella, after a ghost from one of the Destiny 2 fanfics I wrote back in the day.
I shook my head, dismissing her suggestion. She groaned in frustration.
"{Come on, Francis, just a little—wait, I'm detecting multiple life signatures heading our way. They seem like the wolves you heard earlier, tracking you,}" she warned.
Immediately, the three of us got ready for a fight.
Alex drew his bow, since he still wasn't too confident with the Master Sword. Angel aimed his R301, ready to unleash hell.
I drew the [Fragrant Olive Sword] in my left hand and [Ace of Spades] in my right.
Damn, I forgot how heavy the Fragrant Olive Sword is. Luckily, I have Void powers to help with that.
Channeling Void Light, I altered the gravity around the sword, making it light enough for me to handle.
As I prepared for the fight, it hit me that I'd never been in a life-or-death battle before. A wave of fear rushed through me, but there was no other option.
I glanced back at my brothers. They looked nervous too, but when I nodded at them, they nodded back.
We waited a few seconds before a pack of seven wolves emerged from the trees, their fangs bared and ready to strike.
"You guys cover me; I'll take them in close combat. And Angel, please don't shoot me in the ass," I joked as I charged toward the wolves.
Angel chuckled, "No promises," and opened fire.
The wolves split up—three charged down the middle, while two flanked either side.
[Sonic Leap]
I activated my sword art, channeling [wind-element] mana into the sword for extra speed. With a single jump, I slashed the middle wolf clean in half.
[20 Glimmer obtained]
[A/N: Glimmer in the Destiny universe, is basically programmable matter that can be turned into anything. Almost everything in the Destiny 2 universe is made with glimmer, even exotic weapons, thus why it cost so much glimmer to make them in game]
The two wolves beside me seemed momentarily stunned but quickly recovered and lunged at me, claws raised.
*Ratatata*
Gunfire echoed through the forest. Angel had shot the wolf on my right, causing it to falter. I quickly took the chance to put a bullet from [Ace of Spades] through its head, causing it to explode from [Ace of Spades] ability.
[20 Glimmer]
Then I turned to face the wolf on my left.
[Horizontal Arc]
I activated the sword skill, this time using [water-element] mana to speed up the flow and connection between my strikes. My first swing deflected the wolf's claws, leaving it wide open for my follow-up strike. I swiftly slashed through its side, and blood sprayed out like a waterfall.
[20 Glimmer]
With those wolves down, I spun around to check on my brothers. They were already finishing off their targets, working together to take down the remaining wolves.
"Damn, their pelts are tough. I had to empty an entire mag just to kill one. I could've used enchanted bullets, but I didn't want to waste my mana," Angel grumbled as he reloaded.
"Yeah, I had to coat my arrows with mana just to pierce them. One almost got me from behind, but I rewound it just in time," Alex sighed in relief as he retrieved his arrows from the dead wolves.
"Quinella, any more enemies nearby?" I asked my Ghost.
She floated into the air and scanned the area. {There are a few life signatures, but none seem to be heading our way or posing any threat.}"
"Good. Can you find a way out of this forest?" I asked hopefully.
"{Yes, I've already scanned the surrounding landscape. The quickest route is through a small canyon to the west. You can glide down and carry your brothers if needed,}" she answered.
I nodded and relayed the information to my brothers. "Quinella found a way out. There's a canyon to the west, and I can glide down while carrying you two."
"I'm good. Besides, I got a grapple gun from my system, and I've been dying to try it out," Angel replied with a grin.
Before leaving, Angel took a moment to store the wolves' bodies, just in case they might come in handy later.
"I'm fine too. I've got a glider," Alex said as he pried an arrow out of a tree.
I waited for them to finish gathering their things, and once they were ready, we set off for the canyon, hoping we'd find some sign of civilization on the other side.
