Chapter 24 - One Last Goodbye

The day had arrived. High school was over, prom was a fleeting memory, and now Oliver found himself standing in the airport, surrounded by friends and family. The weight of this moment hadn't quite hit him until now—this was it. The next chapter of his life was about to begin, and it was pulling him thousands of miles away.

Oliver hugged his friends goodbye, lingering with each one as if trying to savor the last few moments he had with them. When he turned to Eli, he couldn't help but laugh. Eli's eyes were red and puffy, his face blotchy from all the crying.

"Seriously, Eli?" Oliver teased, pulling him in for a big hug. "I'm not dying, you know. You'll see me again."

"I know," Eli sniffed, his voice thick with emotion. "But it won't be the same without you."

Oliver chuckled softly, squeezing his best friend tighter. "I'll miss you too."

After Eli, it was his parents' turn. His dad wrapped him in a strong, reassuring embrace, his hand patting Oliver's back like he'd done a thousand times before. "You're gonna do great things, son. We're so proud of you."

His mother followed, her hug softer but just as full of love. "Take care of yourself, Oliver. Follow your dream, but don't forget to call, okay?"

"I will, Mom," Oliver whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He scanned the crowd again, his eyes darting around the bustling airport. He was looking for someone—someone he hadn't seen yet. But Noah wasn't there.

As the time for his flight neared, his friends said their final goodbyes, leaving Oliver with just his parents and Eli. He tried to hide his disappointment, but his heart sank. Where was Noah? After everything they had shared, he had hoped Noah would be here. But as the minutes ticked by, and his departure grew closer, the absence felt like a sharp ache in his chest.

With a heavy sigh, Oliver walked toward the security gate, his face visibly upset. His parents and Eli lingered nearby, watching him with hopeful eyes. He had almost made it to the checkpoint when he suddenly heard his name.

"OLIVER!"

He turned just in time to see Noah sprinting toward him, dodging through the crowd with a look of desperation on his face. Oliver's heart leaped, a flood of relief and joy washing over him.

"Noah…" he breathed, frozen in place as Noah finally reached him, panting slightly from the run.

Without a word, Noah thrust a small, neatly wrapped present into Oliver's hands. "Open it when you get to Bangkok," he instructed, his voice steady but laced with emotion.

Oliver stared at the gift in his hands, his chest tightening with a mix of gratitude and something much deeper. Just as he was about to thank him, Noah stepped closer, his expression softening as he reached up to gently caress Oliver's cheek.

"And I have one more present," Noah whispered, his thumb brushing softly against Oliver's skin, his touch sending a shiver down Oliver's spine. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world around them seemed to disappear, the busy airport fading into the background.

Slowly, Noah leaned in and pressed a tender kiss to Oliver's forehead, his lips lingering there as if trying to imprint the moment into their memories. Oliver closed his eyes, feeling the warmth of Noah's breath against his skin, the soft brush of his hand still cradling his face.

When Noah pulled back, they stared into each other's eyes, the weight of everything they had left unsaid hanging between them. There was no need for words; the connection, the love, was clear in the way they looked at each other, a silent promise that stretched beyond time and distance.

Just as the moment hung on the edge of something more, they were interrupted by a loud, exaggerated cough. Eli stood a few feet away, trying his best to break the romantic tension, his eyes wide with playful disapproval. "Okay, okay, lovebirds, some of us are still here, you know!" he called out, waving his hands dramatically.

Oliver laughed softly, his cheeks flushing as he glanced back at Noah, the magic of the moment still lingering in the air. His parents stood a little farther back, their eyes wide with surprise, but there was a warmth in their expressions that hadn't been there before. They didn't quite know what to make of what they had just witnessed, but they couldn't deny the sweetness of it.

Noah stepped back, giving Oliver space to leave but not letting go of his hand just yet. "I'll wait for you," Noah whispered, his voice filled with quiet certainty.

Oliver nodded, his heart swelling with both the sadness of leaving and the comfort of knowing what he was coming back to. "I'll miss you," he said, his voice soft but sincere.

Finally, with one last squeeze of Noah's hand, Oliver turned and walked toward the security gate, glancing back just once to see Noah, his parents, and Eli standing together, watching him leave.

As he disappeared through the gate, Oliver's heart felt full—of love, hope, and the promise of what was to come.
