Chapter 17 - Heartfelt Confessions

On a Saturday morning, Oliver was awakened by the irresistible aroma of pancakes wafting through the house. He stretched, rubbed the sleep from his eyes, and felt a wave of excitement as he hurried downstairs. The kitchen was filled with warmth, both from the sunlight streaming in and from the sight of Noah, who was wearing an apron, blissfully mixing batter and slicing up fresh fruit.

"Good morning!" Noah called out, his smile brightening the room. "Hope you're hungry!"

But as Oliver watched Noah's effortless movements, something stirred deep inside him. The moment felt right; the air was thick with possibility. His heart raced, and he felt an urgency that he couldn't ignore.

"Noah, I—" he started, then paused, the weight of his feelings pressing down on him. But before he could second-guess himself, he blurted out, "NOAH, I HAVE FEELINGS FOR YOU!"

The moment hung in the air like a spell broken. Noah's hands froze, the knife nearly slipping from his grip as he stared at the strawberries on the cutting board. Slowly, he looked up, confusion etching his features. "What?"

Oliver swallowed hard, trying to muster the courage to repeat his confession. "I said I have feelings for you," he said, his voice steadier than he felt. But judging by the shock on Noah's face, he instantly regretted the words.

"No, I mean… I never thought of you that way," Noah replied, his voice shaky. "I always saw you as a close friend… like a brother."

With those words, Oliver felt his heart plummet. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes as he struggled to find his voice. "But my heart flutters every time I see you! The way you laugh, it lights up the room. When you make pancakes, and I smell that deliciousness wafting through the air, it reminds me how much joy you bring into my life. I can't help but glance at your face—your smile, the way your eyes sparkle when you talk about something you love. It all makes me feel so alive!"

He took a shaky breath, his heart aching. "I invited you over hoping we could grow closer, strengthen our relationship. I didn't want to be in this situation!"

Before Noah could respond, Oliver turned and rushed back to his room, the sound of his footsteps echoing in the empty hallway. He slammed the door behind him and sank into the corner, feeling the weight of despair crush him. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he buried his face in his hands, overwhelmed by heartbreak.

He had thought he was prepared for this moment, but the pain was sharper than he could have imagined. Each sob felt like a betrayal to the hope he had nurtured. The dream of a romantic relationship with Noah, once so vibrant in his mind, now felt like a cruel illusion.

In the quiet of his room, surrounded by the echoes of his confession, Oliver realized just how much he longed for a love he couldn't have.
