Chapter 66 - A New Perspective

The morning sunlight filtered through the large windows of Hua's office as she sat at her desk, reviewing the final stages of the merger plan. The once chaotic mess of papers and figures now looked like pieces of a puzzle coming together, thanks to her persistence and hard work. Despite the obstacles and doubts, Hua felt a renewed sense of determination. She had survived the board meeting, earned their trust, and created a solid strategy. The future of the company was far from certain, but for the first time, she believed they had a real shot.

Her phone buzzed, and she glanced at the screen, expecting another email or update from her team. Instead, it was a message from Ming.

*Coffee later? You deserve a break.*

Hua smiled at the message. Ming had been a constant source of support, even when she didn't ask for it. She typed back a quick reply.

*Sounds good. I could use one.*

Hua set the phone down, her mind drifting back to the moments they'd shared in the last few weeks. Ming had become more than just an ally—he was her anchor, the one person who grounded her amidst the chaos of her new responsibilities.

---

Later that afternoon, Hua found herself sitting across from Ming at a quaint café downtown. The familiar aroma of freshly brewed coffee and pastries filled the air, and for a brief moment, Hua allowed herself to relax. The stress of the company and the weight of her role melted away, if only for a short while.

Ming leaned back in his chair, studying her as she took a sip of her drink. "You look like you're finally getting some rest," he said, his tone teasing but gentle.

"I'm trying," Hua replied with a soft laugh. "It's been nonstop, but I think we're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel."

"I knew you'd get there," Ming said, his gaze lingering on her. There was something different in the way he looked at her today, something that made Hua's heart skip a beat.

For a moment, their eyes locked, and Hua felt a warmth spread through her chest. She had always admired Ming for his sharp mind, his loyalty, and his calm under pressure, but lately, there was something more—something unspoken between them.

"Can I ask you something?" Hua said, breaking the silence.

"Of course," Ming replied, leaning forward slightly.

"Why have you stuck around? I mean, I've pushed you away so many times, but you're still here. Why?"

Ming's expression softened, and he looked at her intently. "Because I believe in you, Hua. I always have. Even when you didn't believe in yourself."

Hua's breath caught in her throat. She had never heard him speak so openly before, and the sincerity in his words touched her deeply.

"I couldn't just sit back and watch you struggle," Ming continued. "I care about you, Hua. More than you know."

There it was. The truth she had been too afraid to acknowledge—Ming's feelings for her, and the feelings she had tried so hard to bury.

Before she could respond, Ming reached across the table and gently took her hand. His touch was warm, and Hua felt her heart race. She had always prided herself on being composed and in control, but in this moment, all her defenses crumbled.

"I know you're used to doing everything on your own," Ming said softly. "But you don't have to anymore. You've got me."

Hua's eyes welled up with unexpected emotion. For so long, she had carried the burden of her family's company, her responsibilities, and her own fears of failure. She had convinced herself that she had to be strong, that there was no room for vulnerability. But Ming saw through it all, and he was still there—still offering his unwavering support.

"Thank you," Hua whispered, her voice barely audible.

Ming smiled, his thumb brushing gently over her hand. "I'll always be here for you, Hua. No matter what."

For the first time in a long time, Hua allowed herself to believe those words. Maybe she didn't have to carry the weight of the world on her own anymore. Maybe, just maybe, she could let someone in.

---

As they walked out of the café together, the sun setting in the distance, Hua felt lighter than she had in weeks. Ming walked beside her, his presence comforting and steady. They didn't need to speak—everything had already been said.

When they reached the corner of the street, Hua stopped and turned to face him. Ming looked at her, his expression soft and full of warmth.

Before she could overthink it, Hua stepped closer, rising on her toes and pressing her lips to his. The kiss was soft, gentle, and filled with all the emotions she had kept hidden for so long.

Ming responded, his arms wrapping around her as he deepened the kiss. They stood there, in the fading light, completely lost in each other.

When they finally pulled apart, Hua looked up at him, her heart pounding. "I've been trying to avoid this for so long," she admitted, her voice breathless.

Ming smiled down at her, his eyes filled with affection. "I know. But I'm not going anywhere."

Hua smiled back, feeling a sense of peace she hadn't felt in a long time. For once, she wasn't afraid of what the future held. With Ming by her side, she knew she could face anything.
