Chapter 5 - Hogwarts train

After getting on the train, I start looking for a fresher compartment. The rhythmic clatter of the wheels and the excited chatter of students fill the air, but my mind is elsewhere, still reeling from the chaos of home. As I navigate the narrow aisles, some seems to recognize me—platinum blond hair, a trait of the Malfoy family, which makes me stand out like a beacon. I exchange a few polite greetings, forcing a smile, but my thoughts are consumed with finding a quiet space to gather myself.

After some time, I finally spot an empty compartment at the far end of the train. Relief washes over me as I step inside, shutting the door behind me. My supplies have already been transported to Hogwarts by Dobby, so I take a moment to lean back against the plush seat and breathe.

The chaos at home lingers in my mind, but I know I need to focus on what lies ahead. Just as I start to close my eyes and let the gentle sway of the train lull me, a knock on the door jolts me back to reality.

I look toward the door and call out, "Come in."

The door swings open to reveal a bushy-haired girl with an air of determination about her. At first glance, I'm struck by her familiar features. Although there are some differences from the girl I remember, I can recognize that it's Hermione Granger, the brain of the original golden trio.

"Hi, I'm Hermione," she says, her voice warm yet tinged with something deeper, a hint of vulnerability.

"Draco Malfoy," I reply, instinctively adopting a cautious demeanor. It's strange to be in this position—meeting someone who was supposed to be your opponent/enemy.

She scans the compartment, her eyes bright with curiosity but clouded by an underlying tension. "Is this seat taken?" she asks, gesturing to the spot across from me.

"Not at all," I respond, motioning for her to sit. As she settles in after keeping her suitcase, I can't help but feel a mixture of anxiety and intrigue. This isn't the Hogwarts I remember; there are new dynamics at play, and I have to navigate them carefully.

"So, are you in first-year?" Hermione asks, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm, but I sense a flicker of something else—perhaps fear or apprehension.

"I am ," I admit, and for a moment, I think about my own struggles at home. I am a fresher of this world.

She then asks, "Are you excited? I mean, it's a new beginning for both of us, right?"

"Excited? Maybe," I reply, looking at her.

"What about your family? Are they wizards too?" she asks, as if trying to find common ground.

"Yes, Malfoy family has a long history in the wizarding world," I reply.

As the train picks up speed, I notice Hermione's fingers fidgeting with the hem of her robe, a telltale sign of her anxiety.

Soon the train starts but no one else came to our compartment . I decided to spend the next few hours by sleeping.

Seeing my action, Hermione chooses not to disturb me and starts reading a book on Transfiguration.

But fate doesn't want me to have peace. Just as I drift off, the compartment door bursts open with a shout. "Is Draco Malfoy here?"

I jolt awake to see a first-year boy with tousled hair and a smug grin. "There you are!" he exclaims, stepping inside with a swagger. "I was looking for you."

"Oliver," I say the name according to the memory, trying to mask my irritation. "What do you want?"

He ignored me and look towards Hermione, " who are you?"

Hermione glances at me before responding, "Hermione, Hermione Granger."

Oliver pauses for a moment. "I don't think I've heard that name among the wizarding families."

"My parents are not wizards," Hermione replies, her tone steady.

Oliver's expression changes; he looks at her with disgust before turning back to me. "You didn't see us for two years, and now you've already started to betray us by sitting with a mudblood."

I didn't gave him any response just look at him.

Seeing his provocation will not work he stopped his drama, " tch, Draco just remember whose side you are" and left the compartment after giving last look at Hermione.

It was strange like he knew I was here and he definitely came on order of someone, someone who wants to test me. But it's normal given Draco have not shown his face in outside world for 2 years .

I turned my head toward Hermione, who seemed eager to ask something. "Do you want to ask me something miss Granger?"

She took a breath and ask" what does mud blood means? And why was he disgusted by me".

I replied, my voice trailing off as I began to drift back to sleep, "Mudblood is a derogatory term used for wizards born to Muggle parents or for those whose families aren't part of the wizarding world, like you."

I looked at her face, which was processing everything I had said, and continued, "It's an abusive word, used for discrimination. As for why he was disgusted, the answer is simple: he was taught to be." I stopped, then closed my eyes to try my luck again.

In another part of the train

Oliver stood in front of a compartment and knocked. "Come in," he heard in response, so he entered.

Seeing the fifth and sixth-year Slytherins inside, he stood with the utmost respect.

A boy adjusting his glasses asked, "So, Oliver, how was the heir of the Malfoy family?"

His question drew the attention of everyone in the room. Oliver had been tasked by them to assess Draco Malfoy, who had been notably absent from gatherings—whether birthday parties or casual get-togethers—for the past two years. Naturally, everyone was eager to know about the heir of the Malfoy family.

He began recounting everything he had observed about Draco's unresponsive behavior.

One girl in the group asked, "What does that mean? Is he now interested in Muggle-borns?"

Another girl shook her head. "I don't think so. He didn't defend her. Besides, when he entered the compartment, it was empty. It sounds more like he just wanted to rest, especially since Oliver said he was sleeping when he arrived."

A boy added, "He seems to be keeping his distance from everyone else."

Another chimed in, "It doesn't matter; we can test him by ourselves later."
