Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

Fractured Alliances

The beach was desolate, its expanse of pale sand stretching out beneath the golden hues of the setting sun. The waves lapped lazily at the shore, their rhythmic sound broken only by the occasional cry of a distant gull. A faint breeze stirred the air, carrying with it the salty tang of the sea. It was the kind of place that offered solace to weary souls, but today, solace was far from the minds of the two figures standing at the water's edge.

Gia stood with her arms crossed, her tall frame silhouetted against the shimmering ocean. She wore a flowing white dress that caught the breeze, her dark hair tied up in a loose ponytail. Her face, however, betrayed none of the serenity around her. Her brows were drawn together, her jaw clenched in barely contained anger.

Ace paced a few feet away, his sneakers kicking up small puffs of sand. He wore a simple black t-shirt and jeans, his disheveled appearance a stark contrast to his usually polished look. His face was pale, his eyes darting nervously to Gia, whose silence was heavier than the crashing waves.

Finally, Gia broke the quiet, her voice sharp and laced with frustration. "Do you have any idea how bad this has gotten?" She gestured toward the horizon, as if the ocean itself carried the weight of their scandal. "We're not just trending. We're number one on every platform, Ace. Number one for all the wrong reasons!"

Ace stopped pacing, his shoulders slumping. "You think I don't know that?" he snapped, though his tone lacked conviction. "I've lost everything, Gia. Everything. The support I had, the fans who admired me, even the opportunities that were supposed to make my career. Thomas—he backed out completely. Do you have any idea how humiliating that is?"

Gia's eyes narrowed, her anger bubbling to the surface. "You're not the only one who's lost something, Ace. My contracts are gone. My name is in the mud, all because of that stupid video. And what have you done about it? Nothing!"

Ace ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. "What do you expect me to do, Gia? Huh? March into every media house and demand they take it down? The damage is done. No one's going to listen to me now."

"Exactly!" Gia said, stepping closer to him, her voice rising. "And whose fault is that? You're the one who dragged me into this mess, and now you're too weak to fix it."

Ace's jaw tightened, his hands balling into fists at his sides. "I didn't drag you into anything. You knew exactly what you were getting into when you got involved with me."

Gia let out a bitter laugh, her eyes flashing with fury. "You're unbelievable, you know that? You're standing here whining about your lost opportunities while our reputations are being shredded. And you don't even have a plan!"

Ace turned to face her fully, his expression darkening. "What do you want me to say, Gia? That I have it all figured out? Because I don't. I'm just trying to survive right now."

For a moment, the only sound between them was the roar of the waves. Gia stared at him, her anger simmering just beneath the surface. Then she took a step closer, her voice dropping to a dangerous calm.

"Do you have any idea who could have leaked that video?" she asked, her words deliberate.

Ace shook his head, his gaze dropping to the sand. "No."

Gia's lips pressed into a thin line, her eyes narrowing. "Well, I do," she said coldly.

Ace looked up at her, his brows furrowing. "What are you talking about?"

"It's Abigail," Gia said, her voice filled with certainty. "It has to be. She's the only one who stands to gain from this. Think about it—she disappears from the spotlight, and then suddenly a video of us surfaces? It's too convenient."

Ace's face tightened, and he opened his mouth to respond, but Gia cut him off.

"We need to confront her," she said firmly, her tone brooking no argument. "Make her understand that if she doesn't back off, there will be consequences."

Ace's expression darkened, and he shook his head. "No."

Gia blinked, caught off guard. "What do you mean, no?"

"I'm not going to threaten her," Ace said, his voice low but steady. "If anything, I should be apologizing to her."

Gia stared at him as if he'd grown a second head. "Are you serious right now? Apologize? After everything that's happened?"

"Yes, Gia," Ace said, his voice rising. "Because I was wrong! I should never have released that tape, and I shouldn't have used her the way I did."

Gia took a step back, her disbelief turning to disgust. "You're pathetic," she spat. "You're willing to crawl back to her, begging for forgiveness, while the rest of us suffer for your stupidity?"

Ace's eyes flashed with anger, and he took a step closer to her. "Don't act like you're innocent in all of this, Gia. You were right there with me, pushing for this to happen. If anyone's to blame, it's you."

Gia's mouth fell open, and for a moment, she was too stunned to respond. Then her anger returned with a vengeance. "How dare you," she hissed. "You're the one who wanted to take her down, and now you're blaming me? You're the reason we're in this mess!"

Ace's temper finally snapped. He raised his hand and slapped Gia across the face, the sound echoing in the quiet of the beach.

Gia stumbled back, her hand flying to her cheek as tears sprang to her eyes. She looked at him, her expression a mix of shock and fury.

"You're the reason I've lost everything," Ace said through gritted teeth. "The reason Thomas walked away, the reason my career is in ruins. Don't you dare stand there and act like you're the victim."

For a moment, neither of them spoke, the tension crackling like a live wire. Then Gia straightened, her eyes blazing with fury.

"You're going to regret that," she said quietly, her voice shaking with barely contained rage. "I swear, Ace, you're going to pay for this."

With that, she turned and stormed off, her figure disappearing into the fading light.

Ace stood alone on the beach, the weight of his actions settling heavily on his shoulders. The tide rolled in, washing over his feet, but the cool water did nothing to ease the burning in his chest.

For the first time, he realized just how far he had fallen—and how much further he still had to go.
