Chapter 11 - Awakening

The world was cold. A biting, bitter cold that seemed to pierce straight through to her bones. Elara gasped, her eyes fluttering open as she struggled to breathe. The darkness around her was suffocating, pressing in on her from all sides.

The air was thick with a strange heaviness, and her body felt as though it had been weighed down by stone. For a moment, she didn't recognize where she was.

The forest that had once surrounded her had changed. The trees were twisted and gnarled, their branches reaching toward the sky like skeletal fingers. The ground beneath her was cracked and dry, the rich earth she had always known replaced by something brittle and lifeless.Elara sat up slowly, her heart racing as she looked around.

Leif was gone. The clearing where they had stopped was gone. Everything familiar was gone.

"Leif?" she called out, her voice weak and hoarse. There was no response.Panic began to creep into her chest. Where was he? How had she gotten here? She tried to stand, but her legs trembled beneath her, barely able to hold her weight.

The curse... she could still feel it. It was heavier now, stronger, like a chain wrapped around her very soul. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to focus. She couldn't panic—not now. She had to figure out what had happened. She had to find Leif.

"Elara..."

The voice was soft, barely more than a whisper, but it sent a chill down her spine. She turned sharply, her heart pounding in her chest. There was no one there.

"Elara..."The voice came again, this time from the other direction. It was distant, echoing through the twisted trees like a faint wind.

"Who's there?" she demanded, her voice trembling. No response. Just silence. But she could feel it—the presence of something... watching her.

As Elara stumbled through the forest, the weight of the curse grew heavier. Every step was a battle, her legs refusing to cooperate, her mind clouded by the strange fog that seemed to fill the air around her.

The trees twisted and shifted as she moved, their branches casting long, eerie shadows that danced in the faint light.

The ground beneath her feet was cracked and uneven, making every step feel like she was walking on the edge of a cliff. She had no idea where she was going—only that she had to keep moving. She couldn't stay in this place, wherever it was.

The curse was everywhere, pressing in on her, suffocating her.

"Elara..."The voice came again, closer this time."Show yourself!" she shouted, her heart pounding in her chest. This time, there was a response. The shadows shifted, and from within the trees, a figure emerged. It wasn't Leif.

The figure stepped forward, cloaked in darkness. His silver hair gleamed faintly in the dim light, and his eyes—those cold, piercing gray eyes—locked onto hers.

It was him. The prince.Elara's breath caught in her throat. She had seen him before, in her visions, but this... this was real. He was standing before her, as cold and terrifying as the darkness that surrounded him.

"You..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. The prince's lips curled into a faint smile, though there was no warmth in it.

"You're awake."

Elara took a step back, her heart racing. "What do you want from me?"The prince's smile faded, his expression hardening.

"You already know the answer to that."Elara shook her head, her hands trembling. "I don't want any part of this."The prince took a step closer, his eyes never leaving hers. "It's not about what you want, Elara. It's about what you are."

Her heart pounded in her chest. "I'm not a weapon."The prince's eyes darkened. "No, you are the key. The one who will break the curse, or be consumed by it."

Elara swallowed hard, her mind racing. The curse—it had been drawing her in all along. She was tied to it in ways she didn't fully understand. But how? Why?

"I'm not going with you," she said, her voice trembling but firm. The prince's smile returned, though it was more of a smirk. "You don't have a choice."
