Chapter 11 - Chapter 10

We spent the rest of the morning training. Thankfully, we didn't practice my ability. I love my powers—crave to use them, to feel the fire growing higher and higher until all my fears are burned in the flames. But the last time I used them, I hurt someone. They were horrible people, yes, but they did not deserve that. No one deserved that.

By the time lunch came around, I was sweating and panting. I had multiple bruises, and my leg was bleeding—not too much, but enough to hurt. We headed to the healing center before getting lunch. It was inside the cave, in a small section of one of the hanging houses, in one of the tunnels branching off from the main camp area.

The room had moss beds and shelves carved into the wall, holding various salves, bandages, clay cups with pills, and a strange gel that looked extremely slimy. I hoped I would never have to use it. It was a brownish-green color with a slight tint of yellow. Moss grew on the walls, and tables shaped like giant mushrooms filled the room. The ceiling was covered in what seemed to be thousands of bioluminescent worms.

A beautiful woman dressed in blue jeans and a white T-shirt walked in. She had light skin, dark eyes, and long blonde hair tied in a braid.

"Hello, my name is Nazrin. I'm Fiora and Evander's mother. I'm also the medic here. Now, what do you two need?"

"Pyra and I both have some injuries. I could handle mine, but we wouldn't want the prophecy girl to get hurt," Alexander said sarcastically.

Pyra rolled her eyes. "Oh, I'm sure everyone thinks you're so tough because you don't feel pain like a normal person," she retorted.

"All right, you two," Nazrin said. "You both need to heal, so let me do my job. Then you can bicker like old people somewhere else."

We both begrudgingly sat down. Nazrin placed her hands over one of my injuries, and it slowly started to tingle, then began closing up. I gawked in amazement, while Alexander glanced at me, mocking my reaction. I didn't care. It was incredible.

As soon as Nazrin finished healing us, we headed to the food area.

A thought struck me. "Why don't the fairies and humans work together? Fairies could contribute their abilities, and humans can contribute their technology. I'm sure there's some ability out there that could even help improve technology for the environment."

"That's a stupid question," Alexander said.

"Care to explain why it's so stupid?" I asked.

"Because the last time fairies revealed themselves to humans, it started a huge war," Alexander explained. "The fairies and humans had to agree to a truce to leave each other alone and never speak again."

"Don't you realize that was thousands of years ago? Humans have changed. They evolve like any other species."

"Trust me, humans will never change in that regard," Alexander said promptly.

"How do you know if you've never even met one?"

"You're close enough," Alexander replied.

"And what about me tells you that humans and fairies can never cooperate?" Pyra argued.

"Ever heard of the Prophecy of Fire and Water? You're literally supposed to destroy the world."

"They never said it was going to be me in the prophecy. They said it was either me or my twin," Pyra retorted.

"My father has files on you. It contains everything about your life—every foster home you've ever been to, every single mistake you've ever made. My father may have hope for you, but I've read your file, and I know just how evil you are."

That hit deeper than I wanted it to.

"You're calling me evil? You're the one who's so awful to me. You don't even know me, you know my file."

I stormed out of the room. Alexander called after me, but I kept running.
