Yesterday was really stressful for me ,I and my mum had to bake over fifteen pastry cakes, just in the space of few hours,it was a success but it left us exhausted, and by the time we woke up it was noon..I just can't imagine how many of our customers would take the credit for baking the cake all by themselves...this thought made me laugh, well I got up and did my morning routine, that is to get up, exercise, take a nice relaxing shower and then pray before having breakfast which in this case would be brunch....
"Rise and shine mum, hope you had a relaxing sleep? considering how exhausted you were yesterday"I greeted mum...
"Well yeah I haven't had such a nice sleep in a while so yes it was quite refreshing",
"Amazing sooo... what are we having for brunch?"
"Peanut butter and jam with a nice cup of hot cocoa "mum replied and I chuckled....As always mum doesn't stress herself with cooking on Christmas eve,my grandma usually did all the cooking and by cooking I mean a really huge buffet just for the three of us.i always looked forward to Christmas eve because of my grandma's delicious meals
"Uhhhh, mum when is grandma arriving again? it's almost lunch time, and I'm sure she is planning to cook every dish possible".....
"She said she'd be here before 4pm,you know your grandma, she's probably doing some grocery shopping"mum said nodding her head with a weak smile on her face...
"I'm pretty sure I'm going to be as fat as a pig before new year, grandma is going to feed me like I'm a starved chicken in need of food"I cringed remembering how she forced me to eat five times daily last year because she thought I got 'skinny'...
Anyways right after we ate brunch my grandma arrived, with literally a trolley filled with groceries,I was totally speechless, this was way too extreme, but well you can't blame the old woman for wanting to flaunt her cooking skills,I mean she's a famous chef afteral with lots of awards ..and she never misses a chance to show off her best skills.she and mum often argued about who the best chef is and they always drag me into their argument expecting me to support either one of them.
"Daisy!! my little pumpkin is all grown up, come over and give granny a hug"
Grandma pulled me into her embrace with a wide smile on her face.she still treats me like a teenager except this time she didn't pat me on my head nor drag my cheeks. "I also missed you a lot granny, how's the countryside?"," It's as peaceful as always, apart from my occasional live cooking shows everything else is calm and smooth "
Granny said as she tied her hair into a neat bun , she prepared her apron and threw one each to me and mum who was busy sorting out the groceries. And in few minutes the sizzling sound of fried chicken, chopping of vegetables and the mouth watering aroma of different dishes filled the kitchen, I watched how my granny skillfully chopped the vegetables and prepared the dishes,I and mum made a classic flip over fruit cake and smoothie while granny did her thing with the main course dishes.
"I brought fifty disposable food packs to give out to the needy who aren't able to afford a good meal for Christmas eve"
Granny said with a warm glint in her eyes and a compassionate smile plastered on her face.
"That's amazing mum, and I know exactly where we can take it to " mum said elatedly and she and granny packed the food which consisted of curry rice and vegetables with chicken sause.they loaded it into my granny's van and her driver uncle Austin took the food to the orphanage,my mum directed him to .. ,All these left a warm feeling in my heart as I imagined the happy faces of the children at the orphanage.
