Chapter 13 - Six Months Later

Once a human's magic core awakens, he or she is linked to Õnis instantly. This grants them access to the primary six elements that make up everything in the universe.

Fire, water, wind, earth, light and darkness.

Tier 0 spells or what people refer to as primary magic allows a Magus to unleash the power of an element in its rawest form. All that is needed is to call the word representing each element, send mana into your core, and unleash the power.

 Fire: Ignis

Water: Aqor

Earth: Terris

Air: Zeph

Light: Luma

Darkness: Umbra

For someone like Damon with a weak body and a weak core, his primary spells were merely enough to cover his fist with fire and manipulate the wind and others.

Nothing impressive.

However, if an Arcanist were to use primary magic, his basic flames would be a flamethrower at least. The stronger the magus becomes, the stronger his first magic.

As for New Gods, they were blessed with the world's inheritance. For Damon, his inheritance gave him Death magic. The God of life possessed life magic while the God of Storm possessed storm magic. Finally, the God of Chaos and Order Nature and Destruction magic.

Damon planned to reclaim his inheritance as soon as he became strong enough.

While New Gods could be considered the peak existence of this Õnis, beyond the planet existed the cosmic beings. These are the sun, moon, space, stars, time, and gravity.

Each force is represented by a deity and these beings are usually neutral, never involving themselves with the squabbles of mortals and deities.

Cosmic beings also seek strength, and they do so however they can. These deities intercept the rebirth cycle of the world, impacting their soul prints on a few souls.

These souls are born into this world bearing an affinity to their power. Mortals blessed to gain the soul print of cosmic beings usually become peerless experts however upon their death, their soul returns to the cosmic being.

As one gains strength the quality of their soul improves. These souls are used as cultivation materials for these deities, allowing them to benefit from the Õnis.

Blink was one of the lucky, yet unfortunate souls to possess the soul print of the cosmic being of space. Unfortunately, he had a brown core and no decent teacher to guide him through the path of a Magus.

With accumulation and his access to world energy, Damon could improve Blink's core over time. He could also tutor Blink and teach him how to take advantage of the spatial element affinity.

The next three months were the longest. With Blink's training and core refinement in Damon's care, he had less time for anything else.

In the space of six months, Cedric Ross had shown signs of improvement which excited Lord Ross.

To test the grade of a Magus's core a mana crystal is needed. Once in contact with a being with an active core, the mana crystal reacts and reflects the color of the user's core.

When Lord Ross and the lady came to his home in the village, she approached him with the mana crystal. They planned on using it to test if Damon had an active mana core, but he ended up admitting his crime before they could get to that part.

When Cedric made contact with the core, it showed a reaction to his touch. Currently, his blocked magic core was riddled with cracks, and it would take another three months to completely break.

That was two months before his birthday and three months before the recruitment exams for the empire's academies.

Everything was going according to plan and Lord Ross's confidence Damon was at its peak. For the first time in a long while, there was hope for a brighter future for the Ross family, and he was the Patriarch that will bring about that future.

With the level of trust Damon had gained, the remaining members of the Ross family were sidelined. Lord Ross no longer had doubts on what to do and who to trust.

With this, conflicts lessened and resentment began to build. The entire family seemed to have turned their back on Lord Ross, but he didn't care. In three months, Cedric would awaken his magic core and the value of the rest of the family members would diminish to zero.

As the only member of the Ross family who produced a child with an affinity to magic, his words would become law.

Damon focused on improving himself with every little chance he got. By this time other members of the Ross family had become suspicious of Damon's activities. While Ross already made it clear that Damon was a slave with magic affinity and that was the reason for his adopting, many felt there was something else.

They began snooping around, and they quickly noticed Blink and Cedric's frequent visits to Damon's room. During the visits, the room doors were always guarded heavily, making it more suspicious.

What the hell were these three doing together?

Unfortunately they could only speculate from a distance since the guards were loyal to Lord Ross and didn't let them into the room.

Throughout the chaos and commotion caused by other members of the Ross family, Damon ignored everything and focused on improving his core.

According to Lord Ross, the festival of radiant heir was just a month away, and he was the one to represent the Ross family as an adopted son.

Lord Ross was eager to show off to the world that there was hope for his dying family. As long as Damon could perform well in this event, people will start speaking about his family again.

The name that was once forgotten would be remembered by everyone.

Originally, Damon planned to decline the offer but after thinking about it for a while, he decided to agree. The rewards listed for the winner of the event included extremely rare resources that would help boost his core's improvement rate.

If he succeeds he may be able to upgrade his core to the orange color before the recruitment exams.
