Chapter 1 - Unending Slumber

I woke up and looked at the clock, seeing that it was 7 in the morning. I was frustrated because I hated waking up early on Monday mornings, especially since the company I worked for was closed that day.

I got out of bed and drank some water from the bottle on the table beside my bed. After I took my last sip, I felt so sleepy that I lay down on my bed, closed my eyes, and cuddled up to the pillow to sleep.

"Hey! You two," the Boss shouted from the upper floor of the building we were constructing. "Stop talking and continue your work."

"Bla bla bla," Harry said to me, ignoring the Boss as we always did. "Why doesn't his throat ever hurt from shouting?"

"I think he has a throat of iron," I said. "After all, his name is Ferus."

"Haha! I think we should get back to work now," Harry said, picking up his hammer.

"Nah! I'm going to sleep. Wake me up when the Boss comes down."

"Isn't it brutal?" Marik said, standing still in front of the castle gate. "We are here guarding the castle in the noon, and the King is sleeping inside, soundly, in front of hand fans."

"Then stop taking the job so seriously," I said, lying on the ground in the shadow of an oak tree, with my hands behind my head and my upper body resting against the tree. "Come here and sit beside me."

"No! I am a proud soldier, and I follow rules and regulations, true to my heart—" Marik cut off as he noticed movement in the bush, pointing his bow towards it. "Hey, who's there?"

"It was just the wind, Marik," I said. "Relax, dude."

"What if it wasn't just the wind?"

"You know what? I drank all night, and now I'm feeling so sleepy," I said, closing my eyes.

"Something definitely feels off..." Marik said, tightening his glare towards the bush.

"I don't know, man! Do whatever you want, just don't wake me up."

What a great day for fishing! I thought, looking out from the window of my fishing hut, which was situated near one of the scariest lakes in the world. I would definitely catch a big fish today.

I picked up the fishing rod from the left corner of the room and went outside to my favorite fishing spot on the dock. I attached a worm to the fishing hook as bait and cast it into the lake.

I sat on the foldable chair on the dock, wearing a straw hat on my head, and waited for a fish to get hooked. The wind was so pleasant that it hit the sweet spot, which in turn made me fall asleep.

"What the heck!" I said to myself, hitting the train track with a hammer. "It's not even bending an inch. How am I supposed to repair it in a day?"

Koo, Koo The train honked.

I was suddenly shocked when I heard the horn of a train from behind.

A train? I thought, looking at the wooden cross placed on the tracks in front of me. Nah! A train can't come on a closed track. Maybe I'm just too tired and starting to daydream.

I continued my work. I did it for a few more moments until I began to hear train noises from behind. I glanced at the cross again before turning towards the sound of the train, which was now less than an inch away.

My eyes widened as I saw that an actual train was coming towards me, about to hit me any second.

Bam

The train hit me straight in the chest. The pain was immeasurable. I thought I had died as images of my parents flashed through my mind, but suddenly I woke up and found myself sitting in a chair on a fishing dock, with a fishing rod in my hand that was rumbling as if a very big fish had taken the bait and gotten caught on the hook. I tried to pull it up using every ounce of my strength, and I was actually able to lift it.

My eyes widened as I saw a monstrous fish emerging from the lake, coming toward me with the pull.

crunch

The fish bit me on the neck. The pain was immeasurable. I thought I had died as images of my parents flashed through my mind. Wait! Again? I thought, pushing aside the thought of death and my parents. Suddenly, I woke up and found myself sitting under an oak tree, staring at the sight of a wild tiger sitting on Marik's lifeless body.

I tried to draw my sword, but before I could draw it completely,

Ghach

The tiger jumped on me and struck me straight in the face with its paw.

Something was different this time. The pain was still immeasurable, but this time I didn't think I had died, nor did images of my parents flash through my mind. Instead, a suspicious thought crossed my mind: Am I dreaming? Suddenly, I woke up and found myself lying on the floor of a construction site.

"Wake up, bro! The Boss is coming!" Harry shouted before the Boss pushed him down from the building.

"Now it's your turn to die!" the Boss said, approaching me with his hand outstretched to push me down from the building as well.

"Stay away from me!" I said, stepping backward and maintaining my distance from the Boss. I reached the edge of the building. One more step and I would have fallen to my death.

"Got you!" the Boss said, shoving me down.

Thud

I fell to the ground and hit it so hard that every bone in my body felt like it had broken. This time, everything was different. I didn't feel any pain, and I didn't even think I had died because I was sure I was dreaming. Suddenly, I woke up and found myself lying in bed, cuddling a pillow.

I was in disbelief because of the series of dreams I had. I was on my bed, and I knew it was indeed my real bed. But after what I had experienced, some part of me was still uncertain about reality. So, I pinched myself on the left arm, and my eyes widened as I felt no pain from the pinch.
