While waiting, Ash, Misty, and Brock learned a lot from Bill.
Bill's explanations clarified things they hadn't understood before.
"As expected of Professor Bill, the scope of his involvement is so broad!" Brock, who was taking notes, marvelled at Bill's knowledge.
No matter what questions they asked, Bill could provide answers from his unique perspective. He humbly emphasized that his views weren't necessarily absolute, encouraging Brock to explore and discover on his own.
Ash and Misty were no exception. While Bill might not have excelled in Pokémon battles, his research talents were extraordinary.
He possessed a vast amount of knowledge. He was truly an important inventor who had advanced the era.
"The time is almost here. If my calculations are correct, it should appear soon..."
At 7:50, Bill, who had been keeping track of the time, paused his explanations, signalling a break to prepare for the imminent arrival of the giant Pokémon.
Although confident in his prediction that the Pokémon was a Draconite, he remained cautious about drawing conclusions until it appeared.
"Have some water!" Brock offered Bill a glass of juice he had prepared, noticing Bill's fatigue from explaining.
The juice, made by Brock himself, was suitable for both humans and Pokémon, and could even restore some physical strength.
"It's delicious!" Bill smiled and nodded at Brock after taking a sip. He wished he could keep Brock by his side; Brock was eager to learn and a skilled cook.
"Woo..." Just then, an echoing cry resounded across the sea, accompanied by a thick fog. "This isn't natural fog, it's... Mist!" Ash's eyes narrowed.
He could sense that the fog was formed from energy, not a natural phenomenon. Although the extent of the fog was unclear, its outline was indiscernible from a distance of ten meters, suggesting a range of at least one kilometre.
Such a vast expanse of Mist was truly astonishing. Brock and Misty were equally awed. This phenomenon, occurring before the Pokémon's appearance, hinted at the immense power of the giant Draconite.
"Indeed, this is the Ice-type move, Mist!" Bill was surprised by Ash's perception. It had taken him a few observations to confirm that the fog was caused by Mist.
"The giant Draconite seems to prefer secrecy. Every time it appears here, it uses Mist for concealment, and then..." Bill paused as the cry echoed again.
Once it subsided, he continued, "It uses Growl, hoping to elicit a response from the person or Pokémon it awaits."
"So... it's time to act!" Bill retrieved a remote control and pressed a button, broadcasting a sound identical to Growl through the lighthouse's loudspeaker.
"Woo..." As the sound reverberated, a cry emerged from the fog, followed by the gradual appearance of a massive shadow before Ash and his friends.
The shadow was colossal. The cliff where the lighthouse stood was already 40 to 50 meters high, and with the lighthouse, it reached nearly 100 meters. Yet, the shadow seemed to surpass even the lighthouse in height.
"Unbelievable... Can such a massive Pokémon truly exist?" Brock gazed at the approaching shadow with a mix of awe and fear.
No words could capture the sight before his eyes. "Amazing..." Misty was at a loss for words. This Pokémon exceeded her imagination; it was simply too big.
"Pika, Pika..." Pikachu was also taken aback by the enormous shadow. It had never encountered such a creature before, and it sensed an overwhelming power and threat emanating from it.
The ancient instincts within Pikachu seemed to stir in response to this power.
"System, information!"
Ash's eyes narrowed. Although the Pokémon's true form remained hidden, the shadow's outline suggested it was undoubtedly a Draconite.
The system should be able to display its information.
Draconite
Attribute: Dragon, Flying
Category: Dragon Pokémon
Abilities: Inner Focus;
Hidden Ability: Multiscale
Inner Focus: Prevents flinching, unless the attacker has Mold Breaker, Teravolt, or Turboblaze.
Multiscale: Reduces damage taken from the first hit by half.
Strength: Unknown
Ash was stunned by the information. This giant Draconite possessed two abilities simultaneously, a phenomenon he had never witnessed before.
Besides its dual abilities, its "unknown" strength shocked him further. This was the first time he had encountered a Pokémon whose strength the system couldn't assess.
Although he hadn't seen many Pokémon, he had encountered Ho-Oh, but he had forgotten to ask the system for its information due to surprise.
However, after seeing Draconite's information, Ash speculated that Ho-Oh's strength might also be classified as "unknown."
"Why is there an unknown result? What could be the reason? Is my strength insufficient? Or is the system unable to detect the other party's strength?"
Ash pondered the possibilities, but by this time, the giant Draconite had gradually drawn closer.
The massive Draconite didn't exude any aura, yet its sheer size naturally brought a sense of oppression to everyone.
While Bill observed with excitement, he panted slightly, beginning to feel a sense of breathlessness.
"(Good job, good job!) Come on, let me see your true face!"
But Bill didn't mind, his gaze fixed on the approaching shadow. All unknown existences were what he sought after! In the shadow behind Ash, a pair of fiery eyes emerged once more.
Gradually, a small body materialized from the darkness, silently observing the approaching shadow without any discernible emotion.
"Pika....Pikaa?!" Pikachu seemed to have sensed something and abruptly turned to look behind him, but found nothing there. It couldn't help but show a hint of doubt.
It had just felt the presence of a Pokémon behind it. Was it mistaken?
As Pikachu turned its attention back to the massive shadow on the sea, the petite Pokémon reappeared from the shadows and cast a deep look at Pikachu.
It hadn't expected to be nearly discovered by this Pikachu.
