Seirra's Pov :
As I sit quietly beneath the water, the necklace feels warm against my chest. I run my fingers over its smooth surface, my heart fluttering with the familiar desire that's been growing inside me for weeks. "I want to see the unknown. I want to become human."
The thoughts stir in my mind as I watch a girl near the shore. She walks to the edge of the beach and places her clothes on a nearby rock. I watch closely, curiosity bubbling up inside me. As the girl wades into the water, an idea begins to form in my mind an idea so reckless, so thrilling, that my heart races with excitement.
"Should I? Should I test it?"
The necklace… could it actually work? It's a myth, after all. No one really believes that mermaids can turn into humans anymore. Not even my grandfather believes in the magic anymore. But… there's no harm in trying, right?
I glance around, making sure no one's watching. Then, with a rush of excitement and nerves, I swim toward a large rock, far enough from the girl that she won't notice me. My heart pounds in my chest as I hide behind it, my body trembling with a mixture of fear and anticipation.
What if it doesn't work? What if it does?
Clutching the necklace in my hand, I close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to calm the wild thumping of my heart. "I want to be human. I want to be human."
I repeat the words over and over in my mind, willing the magic to happen, willing the transformation to take place. For a long moment, nothing happens. The ocean still whispers softly around me, and I feel… no different.
Slowly, I open my eyes, letting out a sigh of disappointment. "Of course it didn't work,"I think to myself. It's just a myth.
But as I start to swim away, something strange happens. My body feels… heavy. I try to push myself forward with my tail, but nothing happens. "What's going on?"
Before I can react, I fall forward, my face hitting the water. I flail for a moment, startled, before I manage to pull myself upright. But when I look down, my breath catches in my throat.
Where my shimmering blue-green tail once was, there are now two long, pale limbs. "Legs."
"Legs!"
My mind goes blank for a second, and then, a squeal of pure joy escapes my lips. "It worked! It actually worked!"
The myth wasn't just a story! Mermaids can become humans! I stare at my new legs in disbelief, wiggling my toes in the sand. They're so strange, so different from my tail, but… they're real. They're my legs!
I try to stand, eager to walk just like the humans I've watched for so long. But the moment I push myself up, I fall flat on my face, water splashing around me. I groan, pushing myself back up to my knees.
"Why is it so hard to walk?!"
I glance over at the rock where the girl left her clothes, determination filling me. "Okay, Seirra, you can do this."
After a few more wobbly attempts, I manage to crawl to the rock, where I find the clothes. They're strange—so different from anything we wear in the ocean. But I've seen enough humans to know how to put them on… mostly.
The fabric feels rough against my skin, and the strange shape of the dress clings to my new human form. It's odd, but oddly exciting. Once I've pulled the dress over my head, I look down at myself. It's a little crooked, but it's on. I giggle to myself, still in disbelief at everything that's happening.
"I'm human. I'm really human."
With shaky legs, I manage to stand up again, gripping the rock for balance. The ground feels so hard beneath my feet, and my legs tremble with every movement. Slowly, carefully, I take a step.
And then another.
And then another.
"I'm walking!"
It's awkward, and my legs feel weak, but I'm walking. The feeling of having legs instead of a tail is strange and thrilling all at once. Each step is an effort, but I push forward, determined to reach the crowded part of the beach.
As I make my way toward the humans, I can't help but stare in awe at everything around me. The beach is so lively, so full of strange and wonderful things. I glance around wide eyed in amazement, trying to take it all in.
"Whoaaa! What is that?!"I think as I pass by a tall pole with a glowing object on top. "Is that… light coming out of it?"
I stare at the lamp in wonder, fascinated by the strange glow it gives off. How do humans create light like this? It's so different from the natural glow of the ocean. Everything about this place feels so new, so exciting.
I continue walking, unsteadily, my legs wobbling with each step. The humans around me seem so at ease, walking and running across the sand as if it's the easiest thing in the world. "How do they walk so easily?"I wonder, frustration bubbling up inside me. My legs already feel tired, and the bottoms of my feet sting from the rough sand.
As I make my way further into the crowd, I notice people holding strange objects in their hands, sipping from them. I tilt my head in confusion. "What are they drinking?"It looks so different from anything we have in the ocean.
I pass by a group of humans sitting on the sand, laughing and talking with one another. They don't seem to notice me, too absorbed in their own world. I watch them curiously, trying to understand their strange gestures and words. The way they laugh, the way they move—it's all so fascinating.
But as I continue to walk, my legs start to ache. Each step feels harder than the last, and I can feel my body growing tired. "How do humans do this all the time?"I think to myself, wincing as I nearly trip over my own feet. "It's so hard, and painful!"
Despite the discomfort, I can't stop smiling. The excitement of being here, of finally experiencing the human world, makes everything worth it. I've only just begun to explore, and already, I'm overwhelmed by the sheer number of things to see and learn.
"This is only the beginning,"I tell myself, glancing around at the bustling beach. "There's so much more to discover."
My heart swells with joy as I take in the sights and sounds of the human world, my mind buzzing with questions and wonder. "I've finally done it."I'm here, in their world, and I can't wait to explore it .
