Chapter 1 - Issue #1

[A/N; First off, I'm writing this fanfic for fun, I don't have a patreon to shove down your throat, nor am I going to make a word count chapter to show up on recommendation or whatever.

Im only writing one chapter a week because sadly I do have a life, but if this does ever pick up steam then I'll move to two chapters a week or maybe even three.

Also, for those who don't read tags, this is a harem, character growth is A BIG factor, and the MC is a hero in the sense he doesn't do horrible stuff and tries to justify it, but he does kill.

Its the invincible world afterall.

Also, despite actively reading the comics, I have already seen both seasons. And as I might see stuff I want to add later or foreshadow, the world is going to be an AU in certain places.

Finally, One for All is the same, but entirely different, because even with it the MC won't be able to touch certain characters. So, it's changed slightly, or a better term would be expanded upon.

Lastly, the story might be slow as I try to figure out the tone and so on. I do have a plan, but things might shift and change along with my new knowledge of the comic books. Also, character development, do be prepared for an MC who isn't immediately bad ass.

I hope you enjoy it, any critical feedback given without insults is welcome, and if you are curious I am happy to answer most questions.]

The first thing I felt was the cold.

A biting wind that was unforgiving as it snatched away any idea of warmth, rousing me from a sleep that for once felt like it didn't come out of pure exhaustion from college work.

My eyes slowly fluttered open, and honestly, the last thing I ever expected to see was blue.

An expanse of it stretching the entire length of my vision, meandering lines of puffy white clouds letting me know that what I was seeing was actually the sky above me.

Shivering, and mind still picking up the pieces of my consciousness, I sat up, registering the hard surface below me, and oddly enough, the gloves I was also wearing as well.

Gloves? What type of maniac goes to sleep wearing gloves?

I paused, the gears in my head starting to turn as each of my senses began to bring me new information that just didn't make sense.

First off, there was the fact that every inch of my skin was covered in something, and with a cursory glance down, my breath hitched at what I was saw.

Red shoes tucked into a black casings, calves and thighs surrounded in black supportive padding, a green jumpsuit with black lines, white gloves with yellow protrusions on each knuckle, a pristine yellow scarf wrapped around my neck, and a metal breather I could see at the tip of my vision.

I knew this outfit, and as I flexed my fingers while slightly moving my legs, goosebumps swam up my spine.

The costume was a perfect fit.

Oh no.

I got to my feet and took a shaky step forward, heart hammering in my chest as the next thing that came to me was the familiar smell of the city.

I could never forget it, that suffocating scent of moving bodies, garbage, and gas all mixing into a cesspool of broken dreams and capitalism.

The latter was fine, since I did go to college in Austin after all. However, there was the fact I had come home for the summer, to a town with a population of a few thousand people; so that couldn't be right.

I forcibly drug my vision away from what fresh hell I was wearing, able to see the edges of a building surrounding me and a cityscape spreading out as for miles and miles below it.

The rising sun sent rays of gold that reflected off every behemoth of glass and concrete, and I could see the multi-colored vehicles crawling through countless city streets.

Insticivley, a hand came up to my head, hoping that I would feel an injury that might explain why I hadn't woken up at any point when I was apprently moved from my bed and dressed in Izuku fucking Moidoirya's hero costume.

Instead, I touched more cloth, pushing it against my temple where it stayed as I tried to understand why it was there.

Shuddering, I shakingly grabbed and pulled away a familiar mask, two bunny ear-like extensions swaying in the wind as if to mock me.

The weirdness didn't stop there either, because as soon as I started walking toward the ledge to try and get a better idea of what was going on, I could feel something humming under my skin, an energy pulsing through my muscles and bones like static.

It was a familiar feeling, but not my feeling.

This wasn't me.

I looked down at my gloved hands again, clenching them into fists and swallowing hard.

I wasn't just dressed like Midoriya.

I was Midoriya.

I chuckled nervously out of reflex, running a hand through my hair before pulling down a lock, frowning as I saw it wasncurly and green

"Well, this is just fantastic."

I grit my teeth, no longer in a rush to look over the ledge—I was afraid of heights anyways—and plopped down on the gravel tarmac.

This was probably the part where I broke down, maybe found a note in my pocket telling me why I was literally not in my own body, or where something big happened that would put my life at stake.

Yet, with a slow survey of the rooftop I was on, I didn't see anything immediately dangerous besides the sharp drop off over the ledge. And, with a hand quickly stuffed into my pocket, I bizarrely found only a wallet, one with Yen of all things, Izuku Modirya's actually ID with the year reading reading 2168, and a phone that had a design that belonged to neither of the three major brands it should be.

Funnily enough, it was only now, hunched over and unable to tap on the phone to open it since I had gloves on, that I became aware of the straps tightly wrapped around my shoulders.

Needing any type of distraction for the moment, I pulled the iconic yellow backpack off, rummaging through it to find two sets of regular clothing, a laptop with a charger, more Yen bills I didn't exactly know the value of, and a single charred notebook.

After flipping through a dozen pages with drawings and notes written in Japanese, I eventually saw a familiar name in english.

'ALL MIGHT' was boldly written across two pages, and after staring at the name for a good thirty seconds, I carefully put everything back inside the backpack, strapping it back on and finally standing, legs still a bit unsteady as I did.

Simply staring, I watched the streets below for what felt like forever, just trying to process everything that happened in the the last minute.

The cold wind tugged at my green hero costume, and the reality of it all slowly began to sink in. I wasn't just in some elaborate dream or fanfiction. I was in Deku's body and had his Quirk One For All.

The energy from it seemed to want me to call to it also, to bathe myself in its power, to use it as I pleased.

I did my best to ignore the seductive feeling, instead focusing on my current problem and talking out loud to cement the fact this wasn't just a dream.

"Okay… okay. I'm Izuku. That's weird. Really, really weird. I woke up on a rooftop, which doesn't make any sense."

Well none of this did, and as time ticked by in thought, I realized there had to be a reason, a catalyst, a pattern or some clue I was missing.

I took another long look at my surroundings, not seeing anything that would give me a name for what city I was in.

Although, with everything written in English, I could at least say I was clearly not in Japan.

"Think Wes…" I started, then with caution, decided to continue the train of thought in my head.

I just got home for the summer, my parents were out of the house, it was early, and I was told by some of my friends I should watch Invincible.

Both seasons of it could be watched in a day, so I binged it, and as the credits rolled, I dozed off while looking up where I could read the comics.

How would that give me an idea of… wait, there's no way.

My mind grinded to a halt, my eyes snapping back to the city below me, and with a few measured steps, I fully looked over the ledge.

There was nothing out of the ordinary, but there was this feeling, not the ever surging power of One for All, but a hunch, one that would make my current predicament ten times worse than it already was.

A new body, one shorter than my own, had very noticeable green hair, and just happens to be a protagonist in an anime?

At least I wasn't dead…

Also, I apparently have access to the power of One for all?

I mean, realistically, who wouldn't want a superpower?

Another world?

The best opportunities are usually accompanied by unwanted change, roll with the punches right?

That other world being Invincible?

I'm screwed.

I started laughing again, which wasn't like me, and probably louder than I had in months.

The absurdity of it all was probably not good for my mental health, and a single errant thought tugged at me to throw myself over the ledge, just to prove that this was real by either dying, or that it was all just a dream when I woke up back on my bed and in my body.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, logic won out in the end.

"Damnit," I shoved it all to the back of my mind, pulling off my yellow backpack again and bringing out a set of clothes to wear.

A few awkward minutes later, since taking off Midoriya's Costume was an experience to say the least, I now wore a black shirt that said 'victory' in white Japanese letters, gray cargo pants, and the only pair of shoes I had; which just had to be red sneakers that were a size too large.

Thoughts about the clothes I had to wear aside, my next problem came when my mind started to go back to normal, letting me understand I would need to get down from where I was as soon as I could.

There was a problem though, which was that the door to get down was locked, and I was not going to wait for someone to come get me as that could potentially take hours or days.

Also, if this was indeed the Invincible world, then standing on any skyscraper was a death wish, since most heroes treated them like glorified Jenga towers.

Exhaling heavily, I took one more long look around the roof, glanced up at the sky, frowned at the clouds still trailing along unaffected by the situation I was in, and nodded firmly before finally closing my eyes.

I searched inwardly, and it didn't take long to find what I was looking for, One for all feeling like a raging inferno right in the middle a house garden.

I could see eight stars, each a different color, and from what I knew of the show, I immediately honed in on the white star in the middle.

Thankfully, none of the vestiges seemed to have come with Izuku's body, but I did feel something stir as my focus landed on it.

I concentrated on the power, trying to draw it out, just like I'd seen Midoriya do a hundred times.

Slowly, I felt the energy build in my legs, a familiar crackle of power vibrating through me.

It was overwhelming, but I could handle it, I had to handle it.

One For All was all I had after all, it was my safety net if things suddenly went sideways, and I knew deep down that I wasn't given it for no reason.

There was no free lunches after all.

"Just… a little…" I muttered, concentrating on the feeling as it trickled up my torso and finally into my hands.

My eyes suddenly snapped open, and with a heavy step toward the locked door, I simply thrust both hands forward.

With a loud crunch, the entire metal door and a bit of the frame tore off, clattering loudly down the first few set of steps before thudding to a stop.

Eyes wide as dinner plates, I glanced down at my hands—noting the lack of scars Midoriya should have— and was genuinely in awe of the power I had.

I had an actual superpower.

Although, I knew deep down that if this was the world of Invincible, I was nothing in the grand scheme of things, just a city level threat in a world where world ending ones come in spades.

Despite that, I didn't let the thoughts drag me down too much, reveling in the feeling of power, though eventually having to let it go for the moment.

Standing at the top of a stairwell, one that seemed to go down a few floors before there was a door and employee elevator, I nodded with determination.

I needed to confirm where I was, find a place to sleep without fear of the unknown, try to get some type of money besides Yen– maybe there was a place to exchange it— and just think.

I was always good at going with the flow, but this was a whole ocean I had to try and swim with, and I knew sooner rather than later I would start thinking of all the people I left behind. Then my actions would falter, I wouldn't be sure any more, and then I would probably end up staying in one spot.

I had to keep moving.

"Later." I whispered.

Gathering my resolve, I started the tedious trek down stairs, l absentmindedly kept reaching back for the power of One for All just in case.

I didn't summon it up of course, but the fact that I could brought me some comfort, helping push me along as I awkwardly made my way through hallways clearly meant for the staff.

Thankfully, still being a teenager came with some perks, as with a simple "I got lost", one of the cleaners escorted me out and into one of the stairwells meant for those staying in the building.

Apparently a hotel, and I was lucky it wasn't something like an office.

Without any more issues, I walked through a lobby and past sliding doors, able to take my first step onto an unfamiliar sidewalk.

The consonant hustle of the city greeted me, and I would have found comfort in it, if not for my situation and the fact I had no idea what city I was even in.

Although, the sight of normal people squashed most of my anxiety, and like I hadn't just woken up in another body, I joined the crowd.

Ten minutes of walking later, I stood outside a small coffee shop, phone in hand that easily connected to the public wifi, allowing me to download the American browsing apps–since everything previously on it was for someone living in Japan—and typed in the single search that would confirm my suspicions.

I wasn't that surprised when 'Guardians of the Globe' gave me countless results.

Pocketing the phone, I silently entered the coffee shop, mind doing flips as I absently stood in line.

A few minutes later, I could only shrug at the cashier when she asked what I wanted, telling her any type of small sized coffee would do.

She was all smiles, well until I brought out Yen, and the frown she donned finally brought me out of my trance.

I only threw a quick "sorry" her way before leaving the line and finding an empty booth, sliding in and noticing my usually racing mind was quiet for once.

Glaring holes into the wooden table, I was not exactly really sure how I should be feeling right now.

Invincible, of all places…

I leaned back in my seat, sighing as I looked at the tips of green hair in my peripheral vision, wondering why no one had stared at it for too long, but then again most people in a world like this probably saw much worse.

What now?

I knew the question would come to me eventually, it was always a matter of when not if, but trying to figure it out sounded exhausting.

So, for now, survival was going to be at the top of my list; truthfully the only thing on the list at the moment.

After that, when I got my feet under me, I could think about what to do, because maybe when I eventually fall asleep I would wake up back where I was supposed to.

Who am I kidding…

"Hey," I jumped a little, looking up to see the same smiling barista who I stupidly tried to buy a coffee from.

In her hands, a large cup was held out, and without hesitation she set it right in front of me.

"You look like you needed it." She nodded at me. "My shift manager said it was alright too. Hope everything turns out okay."

Without even getting a reply, she turned and left, and I could only silently watch her go.

I stared at the cup, eventually snapping myself out of it and picking it up, popping the lid, and relaxing as the scent of coffee entered my nose.

It seems, even in a different universe, normal people still existed.

Obvious really, but the small act of kindness reminded me I was still me, even if I changed bodies

World ending threats, having a superpower, burdened with future knowledge?

That could all wait, just for the moment, I needed nothing else but this cup of coffee.

However, maybe it was my own fault for ever relaxing in this world, because the second I did so, the entire wall opposite of me suddenly exploded.

There had been no dramatic pause, no wind up, nothing.

One second everything was normal, then it wasn't, and only the fact something in my head screamed at me did I throw myself out the way, barely missing being squashed by the front half of a taxi cab.

Honestly, I should have expected it, and it seemed I was finally getting my warm welcome to this universe.

Unfortunately, it had to be in the shape of a purple skinned monster entering through the new entrance, an unnatural scream setting off mass panic as it grabbed a man and easily tore him in half.

Great.
