Chereads / My Professor and I. / Chapter 38 - Chapter Thirty-Eight.

Chapter 38 - Chapter Thirty-Eight.

"This is the first time I'm realizing that shame is actually a God-given ability, a skill that one had to hone." Reigna scoffed, eyeing Kayla up to down but Kayla just thought she was full of shit.

"Are you just knowing that, Reigna?" She gasped, "Do you also know that the earth is spherical not actually flat, or is that a new fact you just learned today!?" Her voice sounded genuine but everyone knew she was far from being true.

Louisa tugged on Kayla's leave, signaling for them to leave, but Kay didn't budge.

"You must really think you're so glib because that's all you have. You pretty little mouth because I am certain that mouth of yours must be doing wonders for you to get to where you are today!"

She had to give it to Reigna. Her words were cut-throat but subtle. Everyone knew what she meant. Kayla sold her body to get to where she was and that made her grit her teeth.

"You have such a wild imagination, Reigna. A pity you don't channel it to other things. But, I'm honored that you think of me."

"You think too highly of yourself, Kayla."

"Disgusting doesn't even cut how gruesome your heart and mind are! The mirror must break every time it sees your face!"

"Let's go, Kay! That's enough." Louisa pulled Kay away but Reigna spoke up again, "That's right, listen your side-kick dog, and scram!"

"Dog?" Kay snapped, taking a step forward towards Reigna. "Did you just call her a dog!?"

"Kay, it's okay." Louisa placated but Kay wasn't having any of it.

"If she is a dog, Reigna then you are fucking bitch!" She glared at her and if looks could kill, Reigna would have been obliterated ten times over.

"Oh, my, bitch is too high of a compliment for me. Only you deserve that title!" Reigna smiled and was pleased when she noticed people had surrounded them.

Kayla on the other hand didn't see anything else than wanting to rip her mouth open.

"Stop spreading lies you fucking cunt!"

"You are just causing problems unnecessarily, you witch!" Louisa backed her friend up. No one walked all over her friend!

The insult didn't faze Reigna. "You know what, Kayla? I've always wondered how you were able to get the professor to allow you back into the class, but I already know the answer, so never mind." She waved her hand dismissively and all Kayla saw was red.

Her eyes were twitching, her hands were itching for a good beating. God, she would kill this girl and be happy going to jail for it. One less idiot roaming the street.

However, the guilt burned her insides. She and Oliver had an unclear relationship that blurred the lines of right and wrong, especially after yesterday. She even woke up after having a wet dream about it.

Her cheeks flushed remembering the event and for a moment, she almost faltered because of her words.

"Who are you to question my morals? Who the fuck do you think you are!? You are a fucking nobody! A no one!"

"People like you, deserve a good beating because no matter what we say, it can get through your thick skulls!" A spectator added, furiously. The game meant a lot to the players because they could be scouted and get into the big leagues but because of this wench, it might not be possible.

This roused the anger of the passerby.

Reigna couldn't hide the grin at the outcome of the situation. This was what Kayla deserved after what she had done to her in high school. Oh, how the mighty had fallen. The worst part was Kayla didn't even remember her.

Kayla wanted to clap back but another person publicized, "Do you have any idea what you've done you slut!? Both Boweski and Hudson can no longer play for the rest of the game season! You made them miss their chance!"

"I… I didn't know." Was all she could utter in her defense. It was like all the wind was knocked out of her. She understood how important soccer was for both of them. It was what they lived and breathed for and, in a way, she ruined it. She took a step back.

"How could you know when the only thing you're good for is seducing men!"

"Don't say what you don't know! What happened was not Kayla's fault!" Louisa argued indignantly. How could people just spread utter lies? Her eyes landed on Reigna, the smiling Greta!

"You! This is all your doing!"

"How could it be my doing? Which eye of yours did you see Wyatt kiss me? Which eye saw me turning into Kayla?"

"Of course, you'll deny everything! Like a thief would call himself a thief!"

"Shut up! You're defending the wrong person blue hair! Mind your fucking business!" One person yelled at Louisa startling her. She didn't like when people screamed and Kayla saw this.

"That's enough!"

"Enough? How could it be? I still have one more question!" Reigna smiled, cruelly. "Tell me, what trick did you use to make both men crazy for you?"

Kayla sneered, sarcasm laced her words but with a hint of truthfulness, "Since you're practically begging, who am I to gatekeep it? One, look like anything in this world but Reigna, two, have any other personality but Reigna's!" She laughed and Reigna's face twisted, "Do you want to know why? It's because you're so unbearable, so ugly and unknown, invisible."

The last thing Kayla wanted to do was say such things but she pushed her to her wits end!

"You're right, I am a no-one." She took a step forward, "You have a nice face, amazing body, daddy's money, and wear the nicest outfits but underneath it all," She paused, her eyes on her, "All I see is a girl who is scared, who runs away, talks down on people to lift her spirits. A girl who is insecure because deep down, she is a coward."

Every word was like a knife, piercing her soul. Her clothes were her armour and she knew that. She hid under a carefully curated mask so no one could see how small she felt inside.

Tears stung her eyes but she wouldn't cry. She couldn't because she had gotten used to breaking down in front of Oliver. Only him.

She turned around, preparing to leave but saw a thick crowd blocking her way. She pried through them but they surrounded her in an instant.

"Get out of my fucking way!" It was becoming claustered and suffocating in their midst. Different odors entered her nose and made bile rise to her throat.

"Stop it! Stop it! Let us through!" Louisa's melodious voice sounded making Kayla's heart clench. Her best friend didn't like to be in such a throng much less one with malicious intent.

The people pulled and tugged her from all angles and the minute she swatted one hand away, another came and scratched her.

"This is against the school rules! Please stop it!" She pleaded but one person answered, "Agianst the school rules my ass! Did you think about that when you destroyed our game!?"

She winced when someone threw a rock at her and out of the corner of her eye, she saw aimed at Louisa and she struggled but managed to cover her friend, letting the rock hit her again.

"Loui, are you okay?" Her friend began hyperventilating. "Sssh, it's okay, I'm here. Look at me, Loui." She demanded and Louisa's eyelashes trembled, more objects being thrown at them but Kayla shielded her as best as she could. This was her fault. All her fault.

Louisa kept shrinking, eyes darting around, biting her lips. This was too much for the poor girl. She had been diagnosed with severe anxiety and ADHD.

Her breathing was becoming erratic and uncontrolled. Even amidst the noise, she could hear Loui's heartbeat.

"You need to calm down, L…." Another stone hit her but she ignored the pain, "We are going to get out of here by crawling our way out, okay? Just stay in front of me and keep crawling, no matter what? Do you understand?"

Louisa managed a nod and Kayla counted, "Three, two, one!" They both got down on all fours and started crawling. People stepped on them and Louisa tumbled backwards but Kayla cushioned her fall. Nothing could happen to her friend.

"We're almost there, Loui!" Thankfully, they managed to get out. Somehow she had managed to start another riot.

They couldn't go to class anymore so they headed home.

Louia's knees were bruised and Kayla tended to her first, before making her drink water and before they both knew it she had fallen asleep, but she was still shaking.

This incident would take a toll on her mental health, Kayla was sure of it.

What had she done? She rubbed her temples, sipping a glass of water.

She would drown her worries by soaking in the bathtub for an unholy amount of time or so she thought.

Her phone beeped and she checked that it was a message from none other than, her elder sister. Evie. Evelyn Hastings, asking her to meet up at a cafe near the school.

As if this day couldn't get any worse! She chugged the rest of the water, rolling her shoulders because of the pain, and sighed heavily.
