Chapter 1 - World War III.

*Author's note: This chapter serves as a quick explanation of what happened in the history of this novel's world. If you don't want to read it, you can probably skip it, it will only have impact on like the first 10 chapters. Also after this chapter I will be using the formatting you see normally in novels, so don't worry it wont be like this afterwards.*

2093 - The political tension in the world finally reaches its climax. Armies around the globe are being mobilized and heading towards their first battles. This year will later be known as the start of World War III.

2096 - The war has been wreaking chaos around the world for three whole years now. Millions of soldiers have already died, and countless more are heading towards the same fate. Casualties among civilians are ramping up, cities are being wiped off the map, leaving only destruction behind. Many countries have already ordered mandatory militia, and many more will follow their lead in the future. Everyone between the ages of 15 and 60 is being drafted, regardless of gender, race, or any other factor.

2100 - Morale among the troops is dropping. Those who have survived are tired and sick of the devastating war. With almost no army left to fight for them, the leaders of the opposing factions finally resort to nuclear weapons. What follows is the mutual destruction of both sides.

Now it is the year 2176. After the war, the remnants of humanity hid in giant, fortified mega-cities, protecting themselves from radiation, which is ubiquitous all around the globe. However, that's when the first problems began to arise. There were simply too many people and not enough space. So how did the societies in those cities deal with the problem? That's right—through wealth segregation.

The cities were divided into ten districts, with the first one being a circle at the center of the city. The subsequent districts took the shape of rings, each wrapping around the previous one. The population within these districts increased as follows: The absolute elite, living in the first district, numbered around 7,000 individuals, while the tenth district was severely overpopulated, with at least 5 million people.

There was also an eleventh, unofficial district, commonly called the "slums," with the people living in it referred to as "slum dwellers." These were the lowest of the low, who couldn't even afford citizenship. Because they lived so close to the border of the city, radiation could be measured in both the air and the water. People here were born with all kinds of horrible diseases, making the life expectancy a mere 30 years.

The government wanted nothing to do with the slums, essentially creating an almost lawless zone where only the strongest survived. The government enforced only one law: ["Anyone carrying a firearm will be executed on the spot."]
