Chapter 140 - Chapter 140: Reinforcements

A Turning Tide

As the battle raged on, neither Lott nor Altria could effectively overcome their adversaries. While it was easy to handle the foot soldiers, both knew they couldn't allow King Marko to wreak havoc on their ranks.

Amidst the chaos, Lott and his forces struggled against the overwhelming numbers of Vortigern's troops. The wall became a scene of intense combat, with the imbalance in numbers increasingly putting Lott's side at a disadvantage.

Just when the situation seemed dire, a commanding voice cut through the tumult. "Come on, I want to see who dares to harm my husband!" Morgan's voice rang out.

A surge of Camelot soldiers appeared on the city wall, their arrival unexpected but welcome. Skáthach, who had anticipated Morgan's arrival, gave her a knowing smile.

Morgan turned to Lott, her face lit with excitement. "Look how quickly I arrived—it's not too late, is it?"

Lott, surprised by her swift arrival, responded, "Of course, it's not too late. How did you manage to get here so fast?"

Morgan, still focused on the battle, dismissed Lott's question with a wave. "Oh, it's not the time for this. Our priority now is to drive these enemies away."

"Right, let's focus on expelling the enemy," Lott agreed, shifting his attention back to the conflict.

With Morgan's reinforcements bolstering Camelot's forces, the morale of Lott's troops soared. Previously overshadowed by the sheer number of Vortigern's army, Camelot's soldiers now fought with renewed vigour. The unexpected boost caught Vortigern's army off guard, and their morale began to plummet.

King Marko, witnessing the swift turnaround, felt panic rise within him. The situation on the walls had shifted dramatically in favour of Lott and his allies. With morale on Lott's side high and the enemy's diminished, Lott seized the opportunity.

"You've had your way for too long, Marko. Now, let's see who's stronger," Lott challenged as he charged toward King Marko.

King Marko, disheartened by the sudden change, tried to defend himself but found it increasingly difficult. The boost from Morgan's troops had tipped the scales. Despite his efforts, King Marko's strength faltered against Lott's renewed assault. After a few exchanges, Marko realized he was outmatched and, feeling his resolve crumble, he chose to flee.

Lott, bemused, watched as King Marko retreated. "He ran away before I could even react?" Lott remarked, cutting down other Vortigern soldiers as he observed Marko's hasty exit.

Meanwhile, Vortigern, witnessing the collapse of his carefully laid plans, fumed with frustration. The prospect of capturing the castle was slipping away, and the meticulous strategy he had crafted seemed to crumble in the face of unexpected reinforcements.

Seeing Skáthach poised and ready to challenge him, Vortigern decided against a confrontation. Aware of his limitations, he chose to withdraw rather than face Skáthach in battle.

As Vortigern's forces fell back, Lott's mood lightened. He turned to Morgan with a smile, holding her close. The soldiers around them observed the scene with relief and joy.

Attending to the aftermath, called out, "Quickly, attend to the wounded and bury the dead."

Galahad and Altria, along with others, moved to assist as Lott whispered to Morgan, "Morgan, you arrived just in time."

Morgan, basking in the triumph, replied, "Of course, we have a strong connection."

Lott, still curious, asked, "By the way, how many troops did you bring? How did you manage to gather them so quickly?"

Morgan grinned, holding up a single finger. "Ten thousand? Not quite."

Lott was initially surprised by the large number but soon realized the truth. Morgan had only brought a thousand soldiers. "I brought a thousand. The rest was managed by Bedivere and his team."

Morgan's sudden appearance and the subsequent swift victory were largely due to this strategic deployment.

"What if Vortigern regroups and attacks again?" Lott asked, concerned.

Morgan's expression turned smug. "Oh, I've already considered that. We have plans in place to handle any future threats."

With a confident smile, Morgan revealed her strategy, promising Lott that they were prepared for whatever came next.
