The Innocence of the People

Morgan reflected on the strengths of her sister, recognizing that she must possess unique qualities to be the opponent. Despite her desire to bring peace to Britain, Morgan understood the challenges ahead and felt determined to succeed. As their ship neared the shore, ready for disembarkation, the preparations for the impending conflict were set into motion.

The Prelude to Conflict

The war had been underway long before Lott and Morgan arrived in Vortigern's territory. Vortigern, embodying the White Dragon, had always harboured ambitions of uniting Britain. His drive had led him to conquer the other nations on the British Isles with relative ease.

Soon after King Uther's return to his domain, Vortigern's forces were seen advancing towards the Chalk city of Camelot. The army under Vortigern lacked discipline, and their cruelty towards the local populace was evident. Lott observed this brutality with a heavy heart.

To communicate with King Uther, Merlin used magic, and through this, Lott witnessed the harsh realities of Vortigern's conquest. Lott was deeply disturbed, feeling a mix of outrage and frustration. The Humble King Vortigern is despicable. I refuse to condone his cruelty towards innocent civilians.

Lott kept his feelings to himself to maintain the morale of his army, but inside, he was seething. The common people toil for their sustenance, only to face ruin at the hands of this tyrant. Vortigern must be stopped.

Morgan, sensing Lott's turmoil, grasped his hand. She felt his anger and distress. Although she usually found Lott's behaviour less serious, she was moved by his compassion at this moment. Don't worry, I understand your concern. Once I become queen, I will ensure peace for Britain, so that no one will suffer from war and famine.

Morgan's resolve hardened. Even if it takes years, I will not let this hope falter. I must surpass my sister's accomplishments and ensure a better future.

The Landing

As their ship approached the shore, Lott and Morgan prepared to disembark. Lott led the way, effortlessly guiding Morgan through the shallow water. The army followed, securing the beach without encountering any immediate threat.

Kay approached Lott, reporting, "Your Majesty, the front has been inspected, and there are no ambushes."

"Very well," Lott responded. "Let's proceed to the shore. The rest will follow."

With that, Lott and Morgan landed smoothly. The soldiers began to set up camp, and the beach was secured without incident.

Merlin, walking behind the main group with Altria, asked her, "Teacher, who is the greatest enemy of Her Royal Highness?"

Merlin responded, "You'll find out as you accompany Her Royal Highness Morgan. I know the enemy, but how you will face her is something only time will reveal."

Altria, noticing a hint of amusement in Merlin's eyes, sighed. Sometimes, understanding the teacher's thoughts is challenging. But I'll face the enemy with determination. She resolved to become stronger.

The Town Siege

As Lott and his forces moved towards the port town, they encountered no resistance. The townspeople were surprised to see the army and were unprepared for their arrival. Lott's forces surrounded the town, and Morgan dealt with any resisting knights and armed men.

The battle, though swift, demonstrated the significant difference in strength between Lott's forces and the defenders. The resistance was quickly overcome, and the surviving fighters were taken captive.

The issue of dealing with the captives arose. Some knights advocated for executing them in retaliation, mirroring Vortigern's cruelty. Morgan, however, was troubled by this suggestion.

"We can't replicate Vortigern's actions," she argued. "War is for knights and soldiers, not for punishing innocent civilians. We should not emulate his brutality."

Kay interjected, "But if we release them, they will inform Vortigern about our presence. What then?"

Strategic Considerations

Morgan, displaying her strategic prowess, asked, "What will these people do once they escape?"

"They will report our arrival," Kay replied.

"Exactly," Morgan affirmed. "And what will happen when they report to the soldiers in the castles?"

"They won't be able to defeat us," Altria asserted confidently.

Kay added, "But they can defend the castles. If they fortify themselves, we will be forced into a prolonged siege."

Siege tactics in this era were indeed limited and could result in a drawn-out conflict. Morgan's plan needed careful consideration to avoid such an outcome and ensure a decisive victory.
