Andy smiled at her, trying to think positively about her rejection.
"Abigail, I know this is sudden for you, and maybe you're afraid of my status. That's why you're rejecting me," his affectionate smile became more obvious before he continued. "You don't have to answer me now; you can think about it—"
Abigail gripped her bag strap tightly. She immediately cut his words; she didn't want to hear them.
"Andy, I already have a fiancé. I'm sorry, but I can't accept your feelings," she said, standing from her seat and creating distance between them.
"Wait, wait, Abigail." Andy was shocked beyond words. He immediately followed her, standing up from his seat.
Although they were only three steps apart, it felt as if she were miles away.
